CD-R backups work and DVD-R backups don't

I am really puzzled by the fact that I can't seem to get any backups to work unless they are on CD-R's. I have tried Memorex, Ritek G05, Taiyo Yuden G5, a generic DVD-R and a Generic DVD+RW media. I have burned them on on my Toshiba SD-R6472 DVD+/-RW DL, Pioneer DVR-106 DVD-RW, Pioneer DVR-108 DVD+/-RW DL, and Pioneer DVR-109 DVD+/-RW DL drives. My XBOX is running an X3 CE with Pro switch and XLCD. The Bios is X3 3294 and the drive is a samsung. This is on a V1.3 system.

I have used DVD2XBOX and then QWIX to get the files and patch them/make the ISO. I have used CRAXTION for the XISO creation. I have even used simpleXISO. I use NERO 6 and Alcohol 120% to burn the discs.

Can anyone see what I have missed? Is there something that I have done wrong? Should I be using a different BIOS version?

Use DVD Decrypter for burning DVD based games. Works for both XBOX and PS2 games, I have yet to burn a coaster with it. Also burn @ 1x or 2x as I have heared burning any faster causes read errors on the XBOX for all drives.

Tried that. :( I am beginning to wonder if it is a problem with the drive just not liking DVD-R discs. I am going to try some other media in the DVD+R flavor this weekend and see what happens.

The laser may have seen better days:(

Replace it with either a Philips or Samsung drive.

Well,

I replaced the drive and all is working now. Guess that the drive that came with my unit was just not up to reading dvd-r media. Thanks for the help.

Which drive did you replace it with? What DVD-R media are you using now?

Mine is almost the same exact problem. My XBOX is running an X3 CE with Pro switch and XLCD. The Bios is X3 3294 and the drive is a thompson. This is on a V1.0 system (ancient). Done all the things you tried including DVD+/-R and RW no luck.

Replace your Thompson drive. They are the worst at reading media. I exclusively use Ritek media for anything I burn and have never had any issues.
