i want to buy a new motherboard. then i just read that the harddrive might need somekind of pasword or something. can someone tell me what thats all about..

now if that is a problem, what about if i bought a used xbox with the disk read error and changed out the disk drive. would that cause any problems...... HELP PLEASE

if all else fails where can i buy a new 1.6 motherboard

You don't have to worry about that. Just make sure the hard drive you install in the xbox with that new motherboard is unlocked. When a hard drive is locked, it's stuck to the motherboard it was locked with and won't work with any other board, but you don't need to worry about this.

you can put any dvd drive you want, the mobo dont care.

better yet, go to www.llama.com and buy an unlocked hard drive. $25 bucks. much cheaper than a new motherboard
