i have installed 2 mod-chips before... never on a 1.6, but still. i've been trying to get this 1.6 install right for about a month and no luck. i've tried everything... is it really that hard? should it be this impossible? is there any way that i just have a defective chip?

one more thing. i asked this earlier and got a reply but i'm not sure. i lost my alt 5v wire so i am just using a regular wire soldered to both points... is this ok?

YEs that sould be perfect as long as your soldering is good at both points

The 1.6 is slightly different because of the extra board you need to use at the back of the motherboard.
You need to make sure that all your points on the extra board are soldered correctly.

I have done some 1.0, 1.4 and 3x 1.6 and all went well. The 1.0 are a paint because you need to clean the solder out of the holes.

One blue LED signifies 5.0V power, and the other blue signifies 3.3V power. One of your power solders must not be good. Look around in the FAQ's. I can't remember exactly where, but I have seen a picture of the X3 chip that shows you which LED is which.

it's probably your 3.3v led that isn't lighting up. one thing that helps is if pins 9 and 15 are connected together either by the rebuild or a wire. keep at getting the 2 led's lit because untill they are lit there's NO WAY your mod is gonna work because the chip won't get the proper power. there is also a huge thread on the 3.3v do a search on it and you might get more info there

Try this. Tape a wire to the D0 point, and tape the other end to a ground point (one of the screws, for example). Don't solder just yet. That method works for me, but I don't necessarily like it as a permanent solution.

Just curious if it would work for you too.

EDIT: By the way, please post your results in this thread:

There are too many threads on this exact same topic to keep track of. Thanks!

How and the hell is grounding your d0 supposed to give you 3.3v on pin 9 and 15????

It won't (obviously). I accidentally posted in the wrong thread. My mistake. boog - sorry if I caused you any confusion.

The D0/ground jumper can possibly help those who have all the LED's lit, but still boot to the standard MS dash (i.e. chip not recognized)
