Chip does not enable, flashbios works??

Ok, my x3 does not enable, but FlashBIOS still pops up. If you care for the story read on, if not skip the next paragraph.

It's a v1.6 xbox (3294_16 is the main BIOS) and has been modded for the past 8 or so months, also this is the 2nd v1.6 that I have so I should know how it works. It's worked well for the most part. Then one day I went and plugged in the ethernet cable into my computer whilst running XBMC (which is something I've done hundreds of times). I restart the xbox so that it can establish a link so that I can get internet on the xbox, but when it restarts, the chip is disabled (red logo) hence the M$ dash comes up. I go to restart it again (quick tap) chip still does not enable. I open the xbox up to check out if the chip is in there good, I even go as far as to resolder the pins. The 3.3 and 5 volts are in there good, the xbox doesn't frag so the LPC is connected, d0 is fine (which really doesn't matter), so all that's left is the possibility of corrupt BIOS (or even worse a fragged chip:eek: ). When I'm surfing through the M$ dash to check options the purple (backup) light will pop up and the xbox will freeze. When ever I try to login to Live or just check settings on the xbox, it just freezes (I might also be banned from Live now, but that's an easy fix :D ).

So, the chip just doesn't want to enable, however flashBIOS still works. I'm trying to reflash the chip with the 1.6 BIOS (3294 16 plus) and it just won't flash properly. When flashBIOS starts up the flash type is "read only?....." so it looks like flash protect is on, when it's not. I say oh well and continue to the http flash, when I go and try to flash the chip the xbox gives me the "flash haulted" message (which is what you get when flash protect is on, but it's not). I try some reverse psychology on the xbox and turn flash protection on (the light on the chip changes to green) and go thorough the whole flashing spiel, and it gives me the flash haulted message again. I continue on and try a different BIOS bank, unplug the control switch, and other troubleshooting tricks I know...same deal.

Any help would be great, thanks guys.

Thanks for replyin man. I've tried that, and also with all of the switches all off (which is the original bank that I had the BIOS flashed to before). I just finished testing to see if I can flash the chip with the protect switch on the chip and switch board in different combinations...didn't work :( . I'll throw in some pics from the flashbios help tut.

This is what I get when I boot to the FlashBIOS screen, it's the same but I'm using the old v 3.0.1.

and this is what I get when I try to flash it, the xecuter logo also switches to blue at the same time.

The other thing is that I think that the v1.6 3294 BIOS are still on the chip and working, because when I go to power the xbox off the exaust fan speed shoots up (I had the fan speed set to 80% before) then the xbox shuts off. Is it possible that some solder joint might be loose somewhere? or someother hardware problem?

I'm on vacation for the holidays, so I don't have the option of using my other xboxs to help me fix whatever's goin on , which is what I usually do when something on one xbox doesn't wanna work.

I spent yesterday morning taking off the rebuild pcb and the pin header, and started it all over again (which I'm sure there wasn't a problem, but I just did it anyways). Checked to see if any traces on the chip or board were damaged, and all looked fine. This morning I tried flashing the said 1mb banks as well as the original 2mb bank that the bios were originally flashed to, with the protect switch on the chip and switch pcb in different positions.

according to the tut you should get a screen that looks like this:

...but this is the one that I get:

which according to the tut indicates that flash protect is on, I continue to flash it and it stops at the flash haulted screen, eventhough it's not and the led on the chip is red.

I just finished making discs with the BIOS on them (one dvd r+ and the other cd-rw), but was unable to navigate down to the disc boot option. The controls in the flashbios menu is extremely laggy, or non operational at all, but I eventually got down to the disc boot option, and it still says flash haulted.

I've given up on this problem until I return back home from holiday, where I can check if the chip is bad on my other xbox's, or if this xbox is bad with one of the other chips. I appreciate all those that helped, I'll follow up on this in two weeks when I get back home, unless someone knows another possible problem
.
thx again guys.

I got fed up with trying to repair this chip, so I ordered a new one. The new chip works perfectly, so all that's left was that the chip was faulty. I've also noticed that there are quite a few others whom are encountering this same problem (are unable to flash the chip). So, my next question would be if it were possible to reprogram the x3 via a chip programmer like the x2 has?

I've modded 18-20 XBoxs using the X3 chip and they've all been a success. However, I ran into the same problem you described; the chip is permanently flash protected.
Before coming here I tried all the same things you did (except I hadn't tried loading the flash from disc or hdd).

This very mod was working for several months with no problems until this. Has there been a solution to this problem yet?
