First off be prepared to do some intricate soldering as this is not your fathers Xbox... Ok with that said it’s not too bad but does require some patience as there are multiple solder points. I modded my PS2 ver1 with no issue and it worked on the first boot and still working today except for the laser which I keep tweaking.

Hum, Best chip out there? I would have to go with the DMS4 Lite and Pro versions as it is superior to the other PS2 chip manufactures. Difference between them is the Lite version has a 1Mb flash and Pro version has a 2Mb flash thus holding more code/data. I would go with the Pro seeing you can run ToxicOS on it, which comes with HDDloader software built into the BIOS code.

There is not too much you can do with the modded PS2 besides play backed up games either off the disk (cd/dvd) or off HDD. It’s not like the Xbox where you can run other dashes, emulators, and media center type software. But still pretty cool to have and saves on the wear and tear of the disk, especial with young kids.

If you have any other question fell free to PM me here or at http://www.consolerealm.com/Tech/modules/vbulletin/

PS you can get the Bios right from their site (ToxicBIOS v1.3 and ToxicOS v0.3)

anyway... why does it matter what version it is? is it the same as 1.0 -1.5 and the 1.6 etc, just a different install method?

I think it's the same with the xbox where it's a diff install... I think I read that it might be a chip specific version... so only certian chips for certian versions, but I can't confirm that.

Yea the DMS4 Pro/Lite version will work on all version of the PS2 including the new version 12 (Slim). That goes the same with the other PS2 mod chips out there as well. It comes down to a different wiring install.

Also the version 4 thru 10 are easier to install as they are a single board design then the version 1 thru 3 which are a dual sandwiched design. I have not yet chipped a version 12, but I hear they are the same as the v4-10.

Be careful with the version v9,v10 and v12 as they suffer from a laser issue after a mod chip is installed, but don't worry as there is a fix for this called the Romeo mod

Here is the laser fix for v9 and v10 the version 12 fix is similar.

Another note I modded a PS2 before I did an Xbox, and could not believe that was it when it came to the Xbox mod. A pin header OMFG thats sweet, as I do not have to solder little wires to various small points through out the board (about 24 of them).:D

Here is a version 7

I only install the Matrix Infinity homebrew chips right now.

As others have said on the PS2, the soldering is at least 10 times harder than the Xbox with twice as many wires.

PS nice wiring mmicrosysm :)

I couldn't image all the install problems, people can't even get a pin header install right for the Xbox.

Haven't chipped my PS2, don't use it much. I did chip a PS1 years ago, and it was nothing compared to what your showing for the PS2.
