It would probably be cheaper if you can get the key off it and get a replacement pcb. If you don't want to do this yourself I could do it for 50 located in the states.

Visible damage is always better than non visible.

You need the DVD key from the board (or xbox motherboard) as without it, replacing the drive will not allow you to play games from disc.

It looks like a burned trace, but may not be worth the hassle trying to repair it given how easy it is to do the reset glitch or other methods to get the key.

What dashboard are you on?

My dashboard version says 2.0.12416.0.
another thing is i don't know if my drive is v1 or v2, idk if it would matter but it would be nice to know, also the chipset
So how do i go about getting the key with this?

You could try flashing a replacement drive back to stock with a random valid DVD key, then applying the 13599 update to the console.

Worst case: You'll be on the latest dash.

Best case: the drive will get the right DVD key from the console. Others have had success with this.

teajunkie says more likely my laser is fried aswell, also the inside of it looks a little weard i guess, so a new drive sounds pretty good right now, whats the the price of a new pcb and laser vs a new drive? and were would i get them?
