Been seeing these soldering irons advertised on tv for 20 bucks was wondering if they actually work, I mean everything works when you see them advertised until you get it home just wondering if they are worth the bother or should I just stick to Old Faithful, the one I plug into the wall to solder

you need to research on here first because we have already posted stuff about but if you want to know then goto www.xfcs.net, sign up, goto forums, at the btm of the page you should see reviews or something, go into that tpic and you wll see my full review on the cold heat iron and the xbox. Hope the site will help.

Your right I should have done a search first, just being lazy again, and from what I've read I don't think I'm going to use one on an Xbox anytime soon

I was teaching a friend of mine on how to install a X3, he was using his Cold Heat.... It fried the xbox motherboard.... it arc'd and burned...
Keep Cold Heats away from your box

Haha, as the previous two replies stated, it's a lot more of a problem than breaking tips. What's so wrong with just using a normal soldering iron people? Honestly, if you are smart enough to mod an xbox, I think you're smart enough to not burn yourself with your soldering iron

But you can get the Cold Heat Iron from QVC/HSN/Infomercials from the comfort of your Laz-E-Boy without even needing to leave the trailer! All for the low low price, of $19.99 ... but wait, there's more ... if you call in the next 30 minutes they will also send you the revolutionary multistipe wire stripping tool!!!

OMG Becky, we gots to gets us one of these!!!!

Get a regular soldering iron ... downside it doesn't come with the wire stripper (which IMHO is VERY cool 8) )

lol, yeah, come to think of it that did look kind of handy. I'd be interested to see how reliable it was though. Probably only works on one size wire or something hahaha.

I bought one cause it looked cool. The size and forked tip design is definately not fit for this type of job.

heh, well I did mine with a cold heat, although in retrospect, it probably wasn't a great idea. It worked, but I probably wouldn't do it again. I haven't had any problems yet, but the thing just scares me... it gets VERY hot, and the sparks just scream POTENTIAL BROKEN XBOX.

It's one of those use at your own risk type things, and I have no intention of risking it again... at least not on my own xbox 8)

Here
Use one if you want to screw your traces. You only need 350f not the 800F that the cold heat irons has. And yes the wire strippers work good. They work on any size wire.
