Cold Heat Soldering Iron

I have a Cold heat soldering iron but i am not sure if i should use it or not. Would there be a problem if i did. I cant find some specs but it heats to 800 degrees.

i have V1.0 so i will have to desolder.

Also this was in there FAQ

2. Are there kinds of soldering jobs for which the tool is not recommended?
We do not recommend it for soldering of large metallic components that require a lot of heat transfer or for soldering sensitive electronic components that may be damaged by fast-rising temperatures or high electrical current. (Momentary high-amperage current will be created during active soldering.)

isnt that statement self explanatory? :roll: you are soldering on a MOBO for gawds sake!!!!

bad2bones, I have to agree with AEgawd since you've already indicated that it specifically says not to use it on sensitive electronic equipment.

Go to your local electrical component supply store (or online store, or for that matter Radio Shack) and pick up a low wattage soldering iron (15 watts is optimal). I would also recommend getting a real soldering iron stand (or station with variable temperature control for the iron). Then if you haven't soldered before, there are several things you should do before working on your xbox mobo.

1. Read the tutorial linked to under the quick help section on the main page of this site.
2. Practice on a circuit board that you don't care about untill you're comfortable soldering (you can pickup a board and some components to practice with at the same place you get the iron).
3. Make sure your work area is well lit and well ventilated (solder contains lead).
4. Get everything that you will use when modding your xbox mobo close at hand before starting (including some desoldering braid incase you make a mistake).

I was quite sure not to use the cold heat. I just needed confirmation. thanks.

I have soldered a little before. but i will practice before hand.
