hey was it a bad idea to use my cold heat soldering tool on this mobo? it looks pretty big but damn and got the board hot. maybe no one else should try this. it worked ok as far as i could tell but my soldering was piss poor. just letting you all know how sh*tty it can be.

We all know not to use that one electronic boards, theres been many post regarding that thing. It get way too hot way too fast and f**ks things up more then not when you use it. Better for bigger less delicate projects. But at least we all have a first hand witness to not use this for there boards!
Thanx

hey i bought one of these things but i didnt buy it to use on the xbox, i just got it just in case i need to solder something real quick, instead of waiting like 10 minutes for the iron to get hot. now if i had a soldering iron like we had at my job, then i'd be in heaven. but i think they cost a lot.

I agree don't knock it 'til you try it. I bought one too and got the different tips to go with it the default tip is too big. Install the different skinny tip; No probs here, it works great.

Either my couch or my chair.
aside from anything said on this thread, the cold heat iron is not good for soldering electronics. its not the heat issue, but the way it heats it. it puts electric current across the tip through the thing that you are soldering, so that meand putting high voltage into delicate electronics. not the best thing in the world.

Completely true!

If that wasn't an issue, yes, there is too much heat as well. Use a 15 watt regular soldering iron. Radio Shack has them for about $12.

well we got these soldering irons that get hot like in 5 seconds and it comes with different iron tips...but they call them cartridges. i dont remember what theyre called or what company makes them though. and we have microscopes too. man if i had that set up here at the house i'd be doing mod chip installs all the time. also i've been thinking about the cold heat iron and how it pass current thru the tip...do they have tips that have a cone tip that is always 'on'?? meaning that u dont have to put metal between the 2 edges and that it'll be constantly hot like a real iron??? and would that let current thru?

what would be the point? just get a real iron.

Fladhing and modding

Hi,

I am new here. I have read a lot of threads and I'm still a little confused. Any help or direction would be appreciated. my questions might be stupid to some but I am confused as hell.

1. If I have a chip do I need to flash the DVD drive still
2. What hardware do I need to flash if needed.
3. How do play my legal ISO files from a hard drive (if possible)
4. Lt clip and LT switch V2........are they add ons for a chip

Thank you

Re: Fladhing and modding

1. If I have a chip do I need to flash the DVD drive still.
No, however a 'chip' (hardware solution) is detectable over xbox live and can result in a swift banning. Flashing (software solution) is considered currently undetectable so you would be better of with that. Although both methods allow you to do the same thing - play backups.

2. What hardware do I need to flash if needed.
Depends on what drive you have and what motherboard on your PC.

3. How do play my legal ISO files from a hard drive (if possible)
Only possible through Jtagging, however theres nothing stopping you from installing your backup to the Xbox HDD and playing it from there.

4. Lt clip and LT switch V2........are they add ons for a chip
No, they allow you to read the firmware from the new Lite-on versions.

Don't worry, once you watch a few videos and re-read the tutorials it all becomes VERY easy and you notice its not that complicated at all.
I would refer the Jungle Flasher tutorial to start with.
