I would like to buy a X3 chip and add a 200 GB drive to my system . I also have a young son so I would like to make the switch from the default Xbox dashboard as difficult as possible. Is is possible to have the moded console boot up and look as if it had never been moded? I have heard that the Aladdin chip is setup so you have to hold down the power button for several seconds before the chip is enabled. A setup like this would be ideal. Is it possible to configure the X3 in the same way?

Thanks,

Before some self-righteous little kid comes to yell at you read and search, I'll just let you know: yes.

Tap the power button - Boots into X3 in whatever BIOS banks you've got the switches for.
Hold the power button down - Boots with X3 disabled; straight to MS Dash.
Hold power and eject together - Boots into X3 backup bios.

I don't think there's any way to reverse the function right now, but you could configure X3 to boot into the MS Dashboard by default even when the modchip is enabled. The only thing you can't do with the chip enabled is play on Live, so that might work for you. You can configure your custom dashboard (Avalaunch, EvoX, XMBC) to boot when you hold down a trigger button only.

Hope that helps.
