Connecting the 360's drive to my motherboard

Just a nooby question here;

I know how to open my case correctly, and get down to the point where I have my PC open, and my 360's DVD drive ready, but I don't have the necessary equipment to connect them to each other.

I have read around, and I don't have a free SATA port on my motherboard, so is there something like a USB>SATA or a PCI>SATA piece of equipment which allows me to do this?

Also, if you could link me to what kind of cable I need (I know it's a SATA cable, but there seems to be different types), then that'd be awesome.

Thanks in advance

Just use the one that connects your motherboard to the pc's hard drive. You have to unplug the hard drive anyway.

Why would I need to unplug my hard-drive? I'll open my PC case up and see if it's the right one.

Thanks for the fast reply..

So has anyone got any links to products (specifically PCI) and a cable that will allow me to connect my 360 to my PC?

Thanks.

I've read you need to unplug all your dvd drives and hard drives to stop them from possibly being flashed. Also when i unplugged all my drives it automatically made my USB flashdrive priority one when booting up. This of course saved me from having to manually set my USB drive priority in Bios.

I have that textbook.pdf here, which seems to cover everything, and it doesn't mention anything about unplugging any other pieces of hard-ware.

But yeah, really I'm still looking for a sort-of PCI card with the correct cable. If anyone could post or link me to it I'd be really really greatful

I highlighted the bit about disconnecting the drives in red :D

Hmm, I have a hitachi drive so just read the hitachi bit, and it doesn't say anything about that.

It's probably because samsung flashing is so different to hitachi flashing.

thanks for the replies!

with hitachi you need to have the hdd that has the OS hooked up.

Leave your computers disc drive plugged in(to use slax for modeb)
And leave the hdd that has windows on it plugged in.

You can unplug everything else. Just makke sure that when your start the flash you pick the correct drive letteror you will flash your HDD or computers disc drive.

Good Luck!

PS Any SATA cable that you get will work just fine.

Heres the link to the SATA cards.

Im pretty sure the VIA 6421A or 6421L will work just fine. (they also com with a SATA cable)
