"contact customer service" - fixable?

So I flashed a 360 for a friend and everything was working perfectly. (It was an ms25 with v4.2 i think...)

After a while, he "got on live and updated it" or something - details from my friend were sketchy at best - and now when he turns on the xbox, it doesn't do anything other than ask him to contact customer service.

i haven't personally seen the xbox yet, so i can't better describe it, but can anyone help from this brief description? essentially - is it fixable (ie related to the firmware somehow), or is he screwed? (hardware problem)?

Thanks in advance.

I suspect it is an E66 error - in which case you just need to reflash with the correctly spoofed firmware

You can use 360 Firmware Toolbox to spoof the firmware to an MS25 version, then reflash the drive with that firmware.

Thanks for the tips. I ended up re-flashing it with the latest firmware and it didn't work (this was before textbook's post)

Then i used the tool that came with the 5.2 firmware to create a spoofed ms25 firmware with the original firmware off the xbox as a source. (same thing as using the toolbox i suppose.)

Now it works!
