Hi, I have just purchased a v1.6 xbox and xecuter 2.6CE modchip. I have installed it with success (got flashbios screen with it detecting my dvd-rom and installed WD 80gig 8MB cache hdd). But now, my controller is not operating and can't seem to scroll inside the flashbios screen.
I have tried connecting it on every port and my controller was working before I modded my xbox. I'm using the ms controller S that came with the system. I have also verified that all my connections to the board is securely connected but with no change in problem. :( Someone please help me in resolving this issue.

Thanks in advance!

P.S. Not sure if this matters but this is my switch setup;Flash Protect-OFF;Chip Enable-ON;Bank Select-1.

Have you tried booting on bank 2? One bank should have FlashBIOS 3.01, the othe should have 3.03. Don't know the details but there are some 1.6 (or 1.6b?) compatibility issues with one or ther other. I don't know how this would show as a problem. Try the other bank and see what you get.

I assume by checking your connectors you also checked the internal plugs for the controller ports as well?

If you put the stock HDD back in place and disable the chip, do the contollers work?

AAAAAND... there's a sticky thread regarding controller compatibility in FlashBIOS, in this forum. Forgot it was there, read through it.

ok, i tried switching it to bank 2 and it does show flashbios 3.0.1 on screen but my controller still doesn't function. Also, i put back the original hdd in but nothing and yes, i did verify my controller connections to the motherboard. Only thing that happened when changing to original hdd is if i disable the chip, my controller functions(when i had the 80gig installed, got required service screen, why is that??). I read through the sticky post inside Xecuter 2.6/2.6CE but with no help :(
Big_Whoopin or someone please help me resolve this issue.

Thanks

ok, i tried my cousins xbox controllers (the original big/fat controllers) and they worked like a charm. I guess i won't ever be able to use the small, nice (personal opinion :D ) S type controller. Ok, next step, can someone help me answer the few questions i have before i actually start flashing it.
1. Which bank (1 or 2?) should i put flashbios 3.0.1 on?
2. Does flashbios allow me to backup/copy my games to my hdd? If not, what do i need to do to allow this?
3. How do I make my wd 80gig hdd work with the xbox?

Thanks again in advance!

You can use any controller you want once you have flashed with a hacked bios.

1. Flashbios is already on your chip and you have booted to it, there is no need to flash it again.
2. No, you have to get X2 5035 from Xbins.
3. Depends on how famaliar you are with computers. You best bet would be to get Slayer's Autoinstaller 2.6, and have that take care of formating your hard drive and installing a dash. You will have to backup your save games before swapping drives.

ok, i just flashed my bios with x2 5035 but i don't see any option to backup my games to the hard drive. If there is no disc, it just goes to the xbox console and if there is a disc inserted, it just goes to the game. How do i get to backup my games onto the hard drive (i'm currently still using the factory installed hdd)?? If i put the incorrect bios, which bios should i use and can i replace the current one? (i installed x2 5035 on bank 1 if that means anything)

Thanks

You need to do some reading, go to www.xbox-scene.com. All the bios allows you to do is run insigned code. You are going to need to install a dashboard. I prefer Avalaunch. To rip games to the hard drive, use DVD2Xbox.

From what you've said, you've installed the correct BIOS.

The X2 BIOS you've flashed allows your Xbox to run non-microsoft software. You need to do a lot of reading to familiarise yourself with what Xbox programs to get, and what they all do.

As said by Fantmx above, use Xbins (I assume you got your BIOS from there) to find programs to use.

You need/must download a dashboard - EvoX, Avalaunch are good ones to start with. Install one before going any further!

The main program you seem to be looking for just now, is called DVD2Xbox (does what it says on the tin). You need to upgrade the hard drive though - that's pretty much a prerequisite.

nevermind, it sounds like when you hooked up the modchip you soldered into something you should have such as one of the wires for the controller port

I've had the same problem here. The original black small controller that came with my 1.6b would not work with Flashbios, but the blue MS controller I bought does work (this is the small type). Also, the Pelican controllers do not work either.
