So first off, I'm not a total dumbass, I just act like one sometimes but I have Jtagged several consoles pre-RGH days, but I've been out of the modding worl for a while and have a couple of quick questions...

1. I'm pretty clear on what the CoolRunner is and I'm sure I need one, but can someone point me to (or give) a simple explanation of the Nand-X? Is it really required if I have the CoolRunner?

2. What benefits will the Nand-X provide over just the CoolRunner?

3. I'm planning on buying a cheap older 360 (phat) so RRoD is more than a possibility, so can I uninstall and reuse the CoolRunner (and/or Nand-X) on a different 360? And if my second console is a slim, will the some components work (I've notice the different wires the components come with so I'm not talking about those)?

Thanks for any feedback and I'm not really looking for anyone to hold my hand but rather point me in the right direction.

Re: CoolRunner VS Nand-X - Quick noob questions

The CR and the nand-x are nothing in the same. The CR is used for the glitch hack and the nand-x is used to read/write the nand. No you don't need the nand-x but it will make your life simpler if you do have one. And it's not going to be something that is inside the console. It's an external device. Also the CR can be reused but tt will have to be reprogrammed in order to use it in a different model (slim vs phat/Falcon/Jasper, etc.).

Re: CoolRunner VS Nand-X - Quick noob questions

Wow, thanks for the quick replies. So if I chose to not get the nand-x, would these other methods require a homemade solution - like building a connector (printer pony, etc)?

I was looking into getting the nand-x kit on modchip central - https://www.modchipcentral.com/store/product.php?productid=17719&cat=294&page=1, would that be everything I need?

Edit:
Are there any 360 mobos that aren't compatible?

Re: CoolRunner VS Nand-X - Quick noob questions

The old Xenon mobo (Phat) & the Corona (Slim)can't be glitched. There are also certain models mobo's with CB's that can't be glitched. There are pretty good guides for telling the difference in the RGH/JTAG support thread.

Thanks again for the info guys. I think I'm going with just the cool runner at first because I'm cheap and see if I need the Nand-x after. If I choose to put it in another 360 it'll be because the current one RRoD.

Plus its always good to support TX :D Nandx deffinetly in my opinion makes things a whole lot easier especially if your glitching multiple consoles

You cant just use the coolrunner, you need some way to read/write to your nand. I used to use a USB SPI Nand Flasher, But i switched to the nand X because its faster, But if you are just doing one install, then get a cheap nand programmer ( $25)

Why would you tell him to get a cheap programmer for $25 when if he spends $15 more he can have a quality nand x , Just get a nandx its worth it

Because I had gone throught the same exact thing. I couldn't afford the Nandx. So I bought a usb spi nand flasher and a xilink board.. Now I have 2 Nand X's, 1 USB SPI (Backup), 2 Soldering Irons ( Aoyue 968 + Hakko FX-888), and tons of coolrunners..
