Just received my xbox 360 slim 250gb and the dash is 2.0.1.13604.0
Do I need to update the dash before I install the CoolRunner? and if so what dash do I need to use?

No need to update prior. Let j-runner do it when you build the image.
yes update ur dash to 14719. use j-runner to do ur rgh...

he would still need to run the update. so Ill just do it now n get it over w/

Why does he need to update the dash? The image J-Runner produces could be 14719 without him being on 14719.
if he wants avatar n kinect to work he will need to run the update.
Whats the best way to do the update?
and do I need to use the Nand-x and get my cpu-key first or update first?

I know I have asked some stupid question I've just been out of the scene for along time and everything has pretty much changed since the first xbox, I went to xbox.com/update and down loaded SystemUpdate_14719_USB so all I need to do is run this or connect through the internet and update the console then install coolrunner and use the nand-x to get my cup-key, I just wont to make sure because I know when I update if I don't have it right the cake is all pudding!!!
1st make sure your drive is in Stock Firmware ,if it's flashed before then flash your drive back to stock !
If downloaded 14719 update then just extract the folder to root of you memory stick or CD(depends on which version you have downloaded).
do you ever used nand-x ?
Nand-x is read/write hw used for Read/Write xbox 360's nand !
Read the J-runner guide properly !
And if don't have any soldering experience the i recommended you to practice before doing the coolrunner or nand-x soldering !

I think the OP may be getting bad info.
Why would you need to update through XBL? Can't you just RGH, get the cpu key and create a glitched image with the 14719 dash?
If I were you, I would glitch now on the dash you are on, and just use J-Runner to create the glitch image for 14719. This would put you on 14719, no need to update through XBL.

Slim with Trinity Motherboard can be rgh'able with any dash !
Update will not effect anything !

I know that. I am pointing out that he does not need to update to the latest dash through XBL. He can create a glitched image based off of the latest dash.
Also, he should not be glitching and then using XBL or a downloaded update to update his dash.
If he want to use Kinect or need Avatars to be working correctly the he have to update his console with M$ official Update ! now he have two option ,update before RGH or after RGH !
