Coolrunner not booting right

I just programmed coolrunner and one out of every 10 tries (and each try I wait like a minute) will it boot to xell. Thats 10 minutes of constant trying. Is this normal because I heard that some zephyrs don't work right which is what I have. I am able to boot but it takes forever. Any suggestions?

Also, if there is nothing I can do because of the zephyr being buggy, I have another one that I may try that is a jasper. How can I see if jasper is 16/256/512 and how do I undo what I did on the zephyr to make it back to the way it was before. I still have my nandread files from when I had to compare the 2 that I got.

zephyrs can be a pain, try moving the wires around (re-positioning them) the green and blue. Failing that try some of the specified capacitors stated in the some of the other recent threads.

Does your jasper have any memory for storage without a memory card or hard disk attached? if not then its a 16Mb one, and obviously if it has 256Mb or 512Mb you have your answer.

I think I'm going to just try to put it back to normal and use the jasper. What is the procedure for this? Am I correct in saying I just use jtag tool to write the original nand back and thats it? For selecting console in jtag tool it says 256 or 512 but how do I know which one if it does have memory without memory card/hard drive?

Yes I did. The wires have been repositioned but the capacitor trick only seems to be working for people with jaspers.

I mean I need to know what to do to put the zephyr back to the way it was before it was opened.

So I jusy use jtag tool like I did to read it but take the read file and write it using the same jtag tool?

I'm trying to put my zephyr back so I unhooked the coolrunner, went into jtag tool and clicked on write .bin using the original nandread bin file and then write .ecc using the image file. The light is still blinking and won't boot up. What do I do?

So you removed the Coolrunner and flashed the ecc file back?

Why? Do you not understand what you're doing?

When flashing your original NAND using nandpro, you need to use a - write parameter rather than a + write parameter. For example, use +w16 for custom images, and use +w16 to write back the original NAND.

Do I put the .bin file or the .ecc file on? And no I don't know what I'm doing because there is no instruction to put nand back.

I don't know exactly and I have been trying to get on your #jtag360 chat room but it won't let me.

So you've not worked out by yourself that in order to return your console to the same working state as you started, that you just need to write back your original NAND dump?

Well what I did was just that. I was trying to restore everything so first I was on jtag tool and did write .bin. I think at that point I was done, but I remember I obtained an image file too, so I wrote that too.

After the .bin file wrote I was good I guess, but now it won't let me do that after writing the image file (.ecc).

It's as if after writing the .ecc file, it won't recognize my usb nandx.

It's common sense FFS.

No offence to the OP but this is a general warning to all spoon-fed out there. You need to be able to think for yourself when doing this stuff as there won't always be someone around to catch your mistake.

And what was the .ecc image for? The Coolrunner.

You didn't have it to begin with and therefore it's not needed now. Problem is, you've more than likely wrote it back wrong leaving your console's SMC in a state of limbo.

You therefore will need to do what's known as a 'bad flash reset' on the NAND to get it working.

Good luck.
