Coolrunner point C damaged

Hi,

I was performing an rgh on an xbox today and I was soldering onto that place that point C goes to on the slim schematic. I tinned the point and the wires and used my flux pen as usual, soldering the wire to the point. The connection was weak and I did not like the position of the wire so I desoldered the wire and prepared the area for resoldering. The point had a bit of spike on it from when I lifted up my soldering iron and what surprised me was that when I used my flux pen to apply flux on the area, the point just broke off. I didn't do it hard or anything and this has never happened to me before but it happened today. There seems to be a tiny dot of solder in the circle of where I am supposed to solder, I tried to solder the wire to it but it is a very weak connection and the wire is barely connected. Is there any alternative point for this?

Yes there is. It's under the heatsync but is smaller and harder to solder to. Is it a Slim or Phat console?

Hi,

Thanks for the quick reply. It is a slim and I am using a coolrunner rev c in case you were wondering. How small is it? Like stby_clk small? If it is that won't really be an issue as I have never found soldering to that point hard. But damn... removing the heatsync! I've never actually removed it before so is it hard? How are the glitch times if I solder to that point? Does it get worse or is it the same? Also, will I have to repair this point or something and I don't think that the standard wire is long enough to reach whatever point I need to solder to so can I just replace it with a 30 AWG wire?

Edit: Oh sh*t... Well I've done a few trace repairs before. Never particularly like them although this seems pretty small. I'll give it a shot see how it goes worst case is I have to buy a post fix adapter.

It's smaller. I'd take the heatsync off and look. The easiest fix will be to get a Postfix adapter. Easy to install and easy to solder too.

Is this a point where if I f**k up I will have to also repair or can I just leave it and use a postfix adapter?

You won't have to repair. Newer Coronas don't even have that point that leaves the XGCPU. That's why the adapter was made.

Nice... In that case I will give it a shot. Soldering onto these points just takes some patience, fiberglass scratch pen and flux. Of course also the iron itself. Can I use standard 30AWG wire? Because I don't think the wire that came with my coolrunner is long enough.

Haha... no problem I will let you know how it goes just as an update. I will use some paste flux I have handy instead of liquid flux (pen) because liquid flux dry's to quickly.

Just confirming, I can solder onto the trace itself instead of the ending circle right?
yes... because the end comes out on the other side point "blank" so you can solder on any place you like unless it goes directly to CPU/GPU thingy...
