Hey guys,

so i've made a few backups of games with good success and burned them no problem. the only problem is that the backups are ~8 gigs each and i'm running out of room to keep the images on my hard drive.

is it possible to have 2 DVD Dual layer burners, put a working burned backup into burner A, and put a blank DVD+R DL in burner B and copy it on the fly?

*if* this is not possible (due to bad sectors or the break layer point not being detected, etc..) could I just hit "make image" in Nero and save it to my hard drive, then burn it. ***I'm thinking that this might not work either***

running out of HD room as we speak....

Hehe, I love the creative ways that people try to ask this question. :twisted:

If you still have the images on your drive, where does the need for a 2nd burner come in? Just burn 2 copies instead of 1 in the first place, no? Or if you still have the iso files, burn a 2nd copy now.

I burn my extracted backup game files for each game right onto a dual layer DVD to archive in case I ever might have to burn it again. I just use my Pioneer 111D to burn the disc as a data disc.

If I ever need to reburn any game I put the backed up data disc into my Sammy Kreon drive as the scource drive and then use my Pioneer 111D as the destination burning drive.

It reads the backup data from the disc in the Kreon drive and burns the game ISO to the Pioneer drive perfectly. I use Nero 7 and simply choose to copy DVD.

This way I keep my PC HD freed up by deleting the game backup data info after I burn it off to a dual layer DVD.

I would sooner buy an extra harddrive to store iso files than waste an extra DL DVD on every game I backup but that's just me. Plus I have the original on the shelf so the need for a "3rd" copy is suspect.

Anyway...skills...read the release notes for XBC 2.4, I think there's one line in particular in there that will interest you. ;)

so here are the XBC 2.4 release notes....where is the part where it says "DVD+R DL to DVD+R DL copying on the fly"?

What's new/fixed:
* Added - Image Browser/Extractor. Right mouse click in Tree/List for extraction options. Use File menu to load an iso image from HDD
* Added - Region Checking xbe/xex
* Added - Support to burn image in ImgBurn (Currently doesn't get correct exit code?)
* Added - Support to burn image with Nero (COM component)
* Added - Support to detect identity changing between Hitachi and Samsung. I've been too lazy to hook my Hitachi back up with a modified firmware so this has not been fully tested by myself. :)
* Added - Support to Extract/Inject Video
* Added - Support to read PFI, DMI, SS and whole image off of a backup
* Added - Support for iso's that dont have PFI, DMI (will substitute standard values)
* Changed - SPTI Timeout values, hopefully fixes more than creates problems :)
* Changed - Drive Open method for burner to Exclusive Access
* Changed - Changed verbiage on ISO Tools tab from Merge to Inject
* Changed - Relaxed PFI check to allow for oddballs like Star Trek Legacy
* Changed - Timeout value when setting layerbreak from 10 seconds to 120
* Changed - Method to detect current visible partition, a little slower now though
* Changed - Removed SGD-605B until I have the time to properly support it
* Changed - Removed Save Firmware button, there are better tools for this
* Changed - Removed Get DriveKey button, there are better tools for this
* Fixed - Not being able to quit if the drive space was low and user selected cancel
* Fixed - Initial lock state for Kreons drives
* Fixed - File Handle not being closed after FindFirstFile
* Fixed - Issue with non-standard video or game partition sizes (Star Trek Legacy)

Who said that it said that? I didn't. But one line in those notes renders your whole problem moot if it's true. Especially if you think along the lines of the "make image" in Nero scenario you mentioned.

(If you're waiting for someone here to tell you directly and up-front how to make copies of copies it's not going to happen, the mods don't allow that here. The closest you'll get is genoSUAVE's answer. Try Google, trust me it's not hard to find.)
