Corona 4gb SD Card read nand - Not detecting nand via card reader

Hello one and all...

So as usual I have exhausted all my options and resources before I made this post, with regards to reading the NAND of the latest 4gb corona with a self made SD card reader modification.

I have read other peoples reports of the difficulties they have encountered with the 4gb corona motherboards and the nand reading and writing.

I have included pics of my install.
I have tried connecting to regular SD card adapter , wire install and then placing that into the card reader, NO SUCCESS.
I have tried soldering the wires to the card reader directly and plugging that in, also with NO SUCCESS.

When I have the mobo connected to SD card adapter, then inserted into reader, then into pc. My pc becomes very slow and unresponsive, and it takes at least 10 minutes for the drive letter of the card reader to come up in windows.
Strange thing tho is that it does not request to format card reader automatically.
Just detects in windows and assigns letter.
Then when I use win-hex to open up the disk, I receive a series of different errors, >>>all displayed in pics.
Basically it does not detect drive is ready, also tried using latest Jrunner 283 for nand read but no success either.

Checked for shorts on solder joints on motherboard and all solder joints are perfect.

Any advice would be most appreciated.

Regards
MCD

Initially I had a similar problem as you, instead I used a microsd to sd adapter (sandisk brand), popped it open and soldered directly to pins. Then I connected that directly into internal card reader on my laptop. Laptop recognized it right away and was able to read / write. Also ensure that the write protect switch is not enabled.

Thanks man
I am using micro sd to SD card adapter, however I am using a cheap usb memory card reader, so i am going to give the micro sd adapter a try using my desktop pc internal card reader. hopefully that goes better. My soldering iron station just decided to give up on me right now though so I gotta wait an hour or so till the shops open to get an exchange done.

So I have tried Micro SD card adapter wired up to corona 4gb mobo, and SD card adapter inserted into an internal memory card reader unit.
Picture attached.

So I still am not having any joy and whats even worse is that I am not detecting the drive letter as before using this method.
Question to anyone out there.
Do I need to POWER ON the X360 when reading the nand using this method, OR does one just leave the live power plug connected to the console yet not powered on, as is done when reading nand using nand-x device in order to avoid blowing up nand-x device.

What brand micro SD Adapter are you using? Some brands dont really work that well. Kingston and Sandisk are the best so far

I have used a cheap no name brand one previously but switched to Samsung as I had no success in detecting nand.
I am currently using a Samsung Micro SD card adapter.
In all honestly I don't see how changing the brand will help the situation, as when you open the adapter they all look very similar inside, and at the end of the day all we are doing is soldering wires onto pins mounted in the adapter for connection to be established between console and desktop, so unless Kingston and San-disk are putting different metal contacts in their adapter, then I would say that every single micro SD adapter should be the same by default design and the materials used would not differ greatly either.

Maybe that's your problem. Try 4 and 6 bridged connected to point 6 on card. That's how I got my reader to work. I had the same problem as you. Ended up being wires not going to the right points on the sd card adapter. BTW I used the micro sd adapter that come with the R4i cards for the DSi.

I did as you suggested and bridged 4+6 and joined that to Pin 6 on SD card adapter, checked all other wires to confirm they where in the right place, still no success.

So I have soldered everything to an actual Card reader now, (pics posted) and used the same wiring method as you suggested. Now I have "disk3" detecting but not readable in Disk management on my pc. also Drive letter E coming up after approx 10min but not reading anything using Jrunner or WinHex.

Xbox has standby power but I have no turned on console. Could this be an issue? Is the nand not reading or detecting in windows because the console is not powered on?

Card reader plays a crucial role, not all of them work, i have 4 here and only one of them works, the others just do nothing

P.S. the Kingston one doesn't work

Thanks Stefanounick, what card reader are you using with success? Do you have a picture of the motherboard of the card reader by any chance?
Are there any identifiable factors that influence the success of the card reader?

Hi one and all.

Looking for some guidance here regarding my still unresolved problem.

I have gotten the simplest card reader I could find (pics attached) and I have connected up the wiring as best I could figure out.
I have included a few attachments regarding what I'm speaking of.

When i connect the usb to pc, I detect a new drive e: but there is no data on it to extract or read using winhex or Jrunner latest.

Hopefully some one can help me figure out where i'm going wrong.

I'm sorry that you still haven't gotten this resolved. I can tell you that I could not get it to read using a USB adapter. I used a sandisk SD card adapter and connected it directly to my internal SD reader on my laptop.

Maybe try using the TX R/W kit?

Yeah man this sucks, rest assured I have tried many different attempts and brands, I am going to go and seek a Sandisk SD card adapter as you state.
I was gonna order the kit but Im in South Africa and it takes like 2 to 4 weeks for delivery. I should have ordered it long ago anyways, I just thought I could get this DIY solution waxed... still not gonna give up on the DIY solution, I need success within the next 24hours else I got a feeling things are gonna go "south" with this job.

Thanks again for the info

Uploaded pics of the SanDisk SD card adapter DIY attempt.
no success at all, not detecting anything at all. and all connections are 100% accurate.
Im pretty much out of all ideas now as I have tried all suggestions and spent more money on the card adapters than the TX R/W kit. So right now I accept defeat on this challenge as I have invested too much time and resources toward this splinter in my side.

TX R/W kit I hope you work out better than these DIY tutorials.

Did you tried to run j-runner as admin? cause i had the same problem, nand allways showing 0kb info, but i work arround

I use Jrunner as admin yes, but when I try and access disk (when it was showing up before) nothing available to access. Now with new DIY attempt (San Disk SD Card Reader), no new disk even coming up on my computer, therefore I think TX R/W kit may prove more reliable and stable.
