Hey all! my first post here :)

(Thanks for the video guide too)

well me and my friend last night tried to use the SLAX CD method but the 360 would not go into modeb :(

So tonight we are going to try the resistor trick, problem is I am a lil unsure on what the defo spec is on the resistor, a few people have said

1k Resistor, 0.25watt, 5% Tolerance?

I have found a resistor at a store which is

1k Resistor, 0.6watt, with around 1% Tolerance? will this be okay? I also heard that you can do this with a 2k resistor?

Sorry for the noob questions, I just need soem advice quite urgent.

Thanks all

Use Slax 2 i had no problems getting my 59dj into modeb. Only use the 2 wire trick as a last resort.

Also if the drive doesnt look like its in modeb check for the signs of modeb. My led wasnt flashing but it took 2 presses of the edject button to open/close the drive and it auto edjected like it was supposed to.

no signs wot so ever of it being in mode B, no flashing, no pressing twice lol.

and I used slax. doing my head in. think resistor wud be last resort, do u know the exact spec u need for a resistor?

as I have seen on forums people say just use like a bit of wire.

I have never used a resistor and i always use the crossed/two wire method. I am also not sure where that 1k resistor sh*t came from either. No one has ever stated that clearly. Seventhson, who did most of the original work on the hitachi drive, removed an onboard 10k resistor and that is why he used one and recommended the use of one.

What do you recommend then? something like a paperclip? put one end into 9, and one end into 0 and switch xbox on then pull it out?

I would use an actual wire, as apposed to a paperclip. I use 32-guage wire (extremely small) and simply slip it the back of the pins, no need to remove the pins and push them in together. I let it boot until the ring of light starts going in its clockwise circle and then pull the wire out. I have never had a problem except for crossing pins 1 and 8, which will brick your drive and potentially your motherboard. A resistor will not prevent that but being extremely careful (and not high) will. ;)
