Corrupted Chip

I have a X3 chip that is giving me the Flash Protect error. I was browsing through these forum's and the only thing that I found was that the chip had a bad byte in the flash rom. Bad part for me is the merchant that I purchased from only offer's a 14 day warranty and I didn't even try to install the chip until a month of having it. Is there any way for me to flash this chip? Will an external programmer work on the X3? or am I just out of $65

Just to make sure... you checked both the flash protect switches on the x3? There is one on the chip and one on the external switch.

I have tried it all without any luck. I have already installed 3 X3's already this is the only one locked into flash protect.

Could try disconnecting the front switch panel and check for any bent pins on the front panel sockets on the X3, also a solder short under the flash protection switch on the X3 itself (unlikely tho).

I tried it without the switch all together with the same result's. The flash protect is not enabled on the chip nor the switch. Everytime I try to flash it give's me the unknown flash halting error. And yes I am using a valid bios file as I flashed another chip already with the same file.

i would suggest that you flip the switch on the x3 on and off several times and then back to off, sometimes the switch isn't making good contact.

and can you flash via http? ( to rule out your dvdrom drive having a read error)

if you cannot flash http, swap out the dvdrom with another to see if it is anything to do with the rom

I was unable to flash http and I don't know haw many times I flipped that switch back and forth. It give's me the same error via http, hdd, and dvd drive. I think I just got ripped for $65.

i think you did a bad solderjob. so you badflashed all banks.
recheck your solderjob and flash backup

I don't think it could possibly be a bad solder job as I ordered another chip and it work's just fine. Also I would flash but I am locked out. Flash protect locked on.

Well in the end of the day you can always send it back to where u brought it from for a warrenty replacement.

how would you get ripped if you had a product thats faulty ?

just send it back for a replacement

I stated in my first post the reason I could not return it. That is why I am asking for suggestion's. I am not trying to annoy anybody just trying to get a working chip.
