Dunno if it's the appropriate thread to post this, so if not please redirect me to the proper thread

I have this Phat jasper with damaged POST points, because of which I am planning on getting the new CR4 XL. However it has a faulty Southbridge chip (needs a reflow or replacement, caused by a soldering mishap at the nand headers). The console has Xell flashed into it and I have good nand dumps, but since the Southbridge has issues I can't revert it back to stock. I've read that you can read and write the nand using the Demon in such situations , so I considered investing on one before but with the CR4 coming out soon is it necessary since Xell is already flashed?

U still need to write a freeboot image to your console so yes u will need a way to read/write your nand

can't this be done with a pendrive loaded with the updflash.bin file and the CPU details manually input into J-Runner? Unless of course there are other additional information that is carried over via the J-R programmer and used to build the flash image?

You can do it via Xell but if it fails then you will need a direct way to read/write since your SB is faulty. You can also use JR to update your dash via a network connection but again, if it fails, your hosed.

So you're saying I have no choice but to invest on a Demon? :/

BTW, once the Demon is installed, do I connect the R-JTAG/CR4 to it or to the on-board NAND/Southbridge setup?

You need to flash the files for CR4 anyways, so either get your SB fixed or get a demon.

So I've finally managed to get my hands on the CR4 and the Demon. Since this is my first Demon install for such a situation, I have a couple of questions before I want to start the install:

1) Considering the faulty SB, do I need to have a stock dump written into the Demon and then attempt to read the on-board NAND via the Demon? Or should I just leave it blank and attempt the read?

2) When loading the hacked image after obtaining the CPU key, should I write the freeboot image onto the Demon or the on-board NAND?

3) If I do write the freeboot image into the Demon, do I need to make any changes in CR4 wiring?

1. All NAND read/write functions are done using the DemoN (it interfaces with the NAND directly which bypasses the SPI/Southbridge).

2. Modified NAND images always go on the DemoN's NAND (you don't write anything to the console's NAND).

3. Install the CR4 as per the guide (you don't need to do anything else).

1) Any particular order in which the chips should be installed? I mean, since I flashed Xell into the original nand before the points went dead, should I be installing the CR4 first and then the Demon or vice versa?

2) Also since the POST points are damaged, I would need to solder on the traces, but I can't find a proper diagram to it. Anybody has a working link to one?
