any way im clueless as to what my mobo is. i figure im gonna have to buy some kind of PCI SATA Controller Card, but which should i get?

Well the ones on the store I listed include a SATA cable and the driver CD. For example this one here. Don't think there should be a problem. Just install to the PCI slot, Windows will recognize it, install the drivers, restart, and you're good to go.;)

Don't use the drivers on the included CD, download the latest drivers here. I found the 0078fk the easiest one to flash, after I got the 6421 VIA Card.

I have an nForce3 chipset motherboard and neither slax 2.0 or 2.1 worked, but slax 2.0 worked fine on my mates pc, I used Slax Live which you can get from the downloads section on here, to flash a 47dj and it worked fine.

ok just order the sata card that abeerdrinker suggested. I also have some info on my chipset by using HWinNFO32.

MOBO Chipset: VIA VT8363 KT133 + VT82C686A
Gateway

I have no clue what that means. I was hoping someone on the board could give me some info weather this is ok or should I just chuck my pc out the window?

The PC is fine, it's just the hitachi drives seem picky as to which chipset will detect and get them into modeb, the card you have ordered should work fine.

I have no more pci slots left. I will try swapping my ethernet card. I let you know how it goes.

Well I tried switching the SATA card with the ethernet card and had zero luck, so I thought maybe my mobo couldnt hand all the slots being used at once so I left the ethernet out, Still no change. I have to face facts that my mobo can't handle it. I'm gonna try it out on my friends cpu if that fails then it looks like I'm gonna have to enlist the services of 360mods.

Just a thought, but if you have RAID enabled Disable it via the BIOS. Also try a different SATA Cable and use the port on the SATA card that is closest to the front of the PC.

how do I go about disabling
RAID? I've never missed with my bios before.
