It says in the textbook...

"Also provide a true path to ground between the xbox 360 case and pc case by using croc clips, small wire or setting them against each other so they are touching"

I dont have a clue what that means, im guessing its something to do with earthing the cable to avoid electric shocks

So im wondering if anyone has a picture of how to do any of those methods so i can just copy it, if so email it to me at [email protected] id be eternally greatful, many thanks

If you look at one of the video tutorials it shows you. I did'nt use crop clips i just made sure the xbox was touching the pc case - side by side.

Do you have a test light? just use the pen tip and wedge it between the power supply and case and take the other end thats the clamp aka croc clip.Clip it to the 360 case(metal) I tested this method with a volt meter and it works fine.

or buy 2 cheap test lights and cut the pen tips off and solder the or splice the 2 wires together. DOUBLE CROC CLIPS.

so can i just put your hitatchi drive (from the xbox 360) and put it on top of my pc tower? this whole croc clips thing sounds too confusing for my small brain...any pics of it in action would be appreciated as i still dont really have a clue what you are talking about?

Watto,

This is a CROC CLIP

You get two of these and connect them together with about 30cm of electrical cable.

When you squeeze the clip it opens up like a crocodiles mouth, hence the name.

Attach one end to the the BARE METAL CASE of the PC and the other end to the BARE METAL CASE of the Xbox 360.

That's all there is to this.

nothing. unless you're incredibly unlucky and you somehow generate enough electricity between you, the ground, and the atmosphere to fry an electronic component in your xbox

Video showing how to connect the croc clips

The Xbox 360 has a floating point ground, using the croc clips is just forcing the Xbox 360 and PC to share the same ground , elminating any voltage/electrical differences. It's all talked about with ANSI standards and stuff.

Absolutely required? That's up to debate. Many people have flashed their drives without grounding at all.

Recommended? Obviously, if it's not too much trouble, it's better to be safe than sorry.

I had two Hitachi's to flash one night. I booted into Slax, then Windows, flashed the first one using my VIA 8237 motherboard , didn't ground. After flashing, I powered off the 360 then the PC. Hooked up the other drive, Slax failed .. So I tried two-wire trick, got it into ModeB, but nothing in Windows. It turns out that something on my motherboard fried because I had no SATA whatsoever and my onboard audio wasn't working either. So.. while problems rarely occur .. they happened to me one time.

If you are opening your 360, I am SURE you have an old IDE cable you can break. Cut the connects off the IDE cable and tear off one wire from it. Strip down the shielding a good amount so you can easily attach/wrap it around your PC Tower and 360. Easy way if you don't wanna spend money. I had spare aligator clips so I just did that so I wasn't forced to spend the $5 on commercial ones.
