curious, why CableSelect for new Hard Drive?

i'm going to slap in a new hard drive tonight (WD 40GB 7200) and read thru the noob guide where all i have to do is put it cable select jumper mode and X3 config live will be able to take care of the rest (prepare & format new drive)
i take it X3 takes care of all the locking/unlocking needed.
is there any reason i would change the jumper after the setup, put it back to master?
mainly curious about the tech reasons behind using CS to start with.

Why not use CS?
Honestly there's no reason not to use master.

actually your better off using CS with my western digital it will sometimes switch off if not on CS though mine is a WD 2000JB

I believe is because of how the cable is flipped around from how it would normally be used in a PC.

yes, because a pc ide channel sets the first drive on the cable to master by default, whereas the xbox sets the second to master
it can cause conflicts/timeouts if the harddrive is set to master, but may work just fine. depends on your drive

its the little piece which sits between your dvd drive and the chassis to keep the dvd drive in its place.

There should be two of them, there not important.. you can just through it out.
