well here is my redesigned lian li xb01 case. I got this from a friend and wanted to make something cooler,

Problems I saw that I wanted to correct with the lian li

1. insicificiant cooling

2. poor rf signal for the controllers

3. power supply in the case like the ps3

4. full size 3.5" Hdd

5. add a kinect port

so i started by tearing it down and removing the motherboard mounting plate and moving it more tward the center of the case. I also cut the plate to allow the 120mm fan to stay in place and holes in the bottom for a additional fan under the MB and to blow thru the added ram heat sinks under the motherboard,

the motherboard is now mounted in a modified 360 chassis that has been cut to allow for the 120mm fan at the back of the case and for the lower ram heat sinks to stick through. I also cut it down to about half height to make look better.

I moved the dvd drive under the motherboard, had to cut the legs off the bottom of the drive and move them to the top for proper orentation. used a long sata cable and a extended dvd drive power cable. i used a 3.5" hdd caddy from a pc and a custom sata cable to connect it to the hdd plug on the 360, and the hdd fits nicly beside the dvd drive,

Moving the dvd drive made plenty of room for a atx computer powersupply, i used a old dell 350 watt psu with 2 18 amp 12v rails, one rail for the xbox and the other for additional circuits (lights, fans, hdd). I used a small transitor for switching the power supply on.

For the kinect port i just used a external adapter and wired it to my power supply 5v and 12v, the usb signal i conected to the plug from a old 64mb memory unit so the kinect uses a memory card port not a usb and can me disconected easily

I put this case togeather with some additional mods to test it and ran it hard for about 8 mounths with a xenon in it and it ran great, im now taking it apart and finishing it up, im replaceing the xenon with a zepher because I want to prove how much better this design is and that is can even keep a older system alive with all the bells and wistles

so over the next few weeks i will bring everyone with me through finishing my desighn and testing it out. Please no coments on my spelling, I KNOW LOL!!

Thanks and Enjoy

well right now im workin on getting my lighting delt with, I want to have indicators for hdd activity and for rgh and nand and maybe for network activity too, im starting with hdd, since im using a 3.5" hdd they have a activity contact mixed in with the power plug. Pin 11 is pulled low by the drive to indicate drive activity. This may be used to give feedback to the user through an LED!! yay

so heres my plug i made from a xbox phat hdd connector

Looks good. What kind of temp drops do you see with these cases.

I was looking for a small tower to fit the slim board

im getting it about 20c cooler with all the mods ive done, there are 7 fans in my design though too, I doubt you will have much trouble with a slim though, i originaly ran a xenon in my case for a while and im going to be putting a zepher in this time.

Ive been swamped at work latly and im currently working on doing my leds on the case now, in a week or two i will be showing my fan and cooling system,

ok heres part of my cooling system im using,

I basicaly took a falcon cpu cooler and put on the gpu and added coolers to the ram, but then i took some cardboard from a cerial box and made it into a shroud for 4 fans. I got the fans from some of those dumb intercoolers, found them to be a good source of parts, fans, switch, xbox powerplug and even thin strips of foam that i will show u what id did with later.

so with 4 fans pushing air thru it it does pretty well, the cpu has a fan on the back pulling air aswell, and the intercooer fans only pull .16 amps so its safe too, these are just ran off the xbox header so they can be controled in fsd, the other fans in the system i have are fixed 12v, more about them later,.

Ive tryed a few different combinations but this has been the best on temps, the old copper heatsink is better on the cpu than the alumminum one from the falcon.

i considered it but i wanted this to be a easily portable unit and when you see it all back togeather youll understand, theres not much room left in it. with what ive done it stays plenty cool, theres another fan under the board keeping it cool too and then theres two exaust fans pulling the air out of the case.

I may do water on my next one, it will be completly custom case made with a cnc plazma bed :D

So i finally have gotten back into this project, i put it back togeather as is for a while to play it and now ive got some new toys for it :).

for now im going to start by showing what ive been doing to my rf board,

well I wanted to add a hdd activity light to my case but just a blinking light wasnt going to do so i found stuff about spindicators. following this link incorporated his design into my ROL.

http://thedialist.wordpress.com/2010/09/03/the-spindicator-project/

Heres what i came up with.

I will get a video together later of it, but it has 10 leds around the rol and added 2 leds on the left for network status and 2 for wifi status :) and a glitch led in the middle.

anyways, ill try to keep this up to date with all the new stuff ill be doing to my case

yeah took me a couple days, and im using a external antenna now too so that part of the board wasnt being used, if your going to still use the stock antennas you will have to put the chip on a project board and use like a ribbon to run to the rol... been thinking about it lol ;)
