well here is my redesigned lian li xb01 case. I got this from a friend and wanted to make something cooler,
Problems I saw that I wanted to correct with the lian li
1. insicificiant cooling
2. poor rf signal for the controllers
3. power supply in the case like the ps3
4. full size 3.5" Hdd
5. add a kinect port
so i started by tearing it down and removing the motherboard mounting plate and moving it more tward the center of the case. I also cut the plate to allow the 120mm fan to stay in place and holes in the bottom for a additional fan under the MB and to blow thru the added ram heat sinks under the motherboard,
the motherboard is now mounted in a modified 360 chassis that has been cut to allow for the 120mm fan at the back of the case and for the lower ram heat sinks to stick through. I also cut it down to about half height to make look better.
I moved the dvd drive under the motherboard, had to cut the legs off the bottom of the drive and move them to the top for proper orentation. used a long sata cable and a extended dvd drive power cable. i used a 3.5" hdd caddy from a pc and a custom sata cable to connect it to the hdd plug on the 360, and the hdd fits nicly beside the dvd drive,
Moving the dvd drive made plenty of room for a atx computer powersupply, i used a old dell 350 watt psu with 2 18 amp 12v rails, one rail for the xbox and the other for additional circuits (lights, fans, hdd). I used a small transitor for switching the power supply on.
For the kinect port i just used a external adapter and wired it to my power supply 5v and 12v, the usb signal i conected to the plug from a old 64mb memory unit so the kinect uses a memory card port not a usb and can me disconected easily
I put this case togeather with some additional mods to test it and ran it hard for about 8 mounths with a xenon in it and it ran great, im now taking it apart and finishing it up, im replaceing the xenon with a zepher because I want to prove how much better this design is and that is can even keep a older system alive with all the bells and wistles
so over the next few weeks i will bring everyone with me through finishing my desighn and testing it out. Please no coments on my spelling, I KNOW LOL!!
Thanks and Enjoy
