So i had a customer bring a jtagged board that had RROD i performed a reflow his wiring came loose so i redid it and it worked fine. His points were fubar so i used the alternates. He used it for a wk and said he kept getting e79 i told him he needed the smc aud wiring. He did it himself and now gets e79 all the time.

He brought it to me, and i took out all his wiring and did the boxxdr method, which i have done multiple times i cannot get it to detect flash controller. I removed the nand x wires several times and even tried a different set but still no worky. Restarted PC but nothing, i have the power connected with ROL. Looked under the board cleaned up some crap and still nothing, e79 upon boot.

I have done this several times, so im pretty familiar but not as familiar as you all may be since i do reballs and such MOSTLY

would a J1D2 rebuild help? how do i know if its the jtag wiring or the nand wiring that is damaged?

do you have the J1D2 rebuild for zephyrs and higher, i found pics for xenon?

nothing looks obviously damaged except for the DB1F1 but im using the smc alternates anywho from this tutorial http://www.boxxdr.com/boxxdrjtag.html

E79 would be caused either with bad JTAG connection or corrupt NAND but nothing to do with the NAND points it self on the board.

As for the 'could not detect flash controller' message test for cross continuity between the J1D2 five points which connects to the NAND-X. If non exists then it's most probably a bad point and you would need to use the alternate points from xmods reference or you could solder directly to the traces on the motherboard.

thanks,

i am doing the rewire right now, but the tutorial is for a xenon, the zephyr doesnt have all of the via points shown in the pictures.

j1d2 5 & 6 do not exist on the board i have, and it doesnt show which point to use.

the other points i used, are those fine for a zephyr?

I wouldn't know exactly as have done all types of boards, if there is no alt point I just expose the traces on the motherboard near the actual point it self and solder directly onto it.

also how would i check for continuity between the points? i do have a multimeter but im a noob when it comes to using it

that continuity thing really helped me, i got it working now. didnt think it would but just flashed xellous.

appreciate the help. i guess thats how you figure out vias.

side note: if a point is totally botches and there is no visible trace, how do you figure out the via cause obviously continuity wont help there?

you would have to solder directly to the trace or wave bus not a simple feat to do for the average solderer, but i can be done
