hi,
i picked up a non working xbox360 slim, it has had a hatchet job of a pcb mod.
my question is can it be fixed? or is a replacement drive/pcb the only solution?
the board is a real mess and has had the trace cut done with what i can only explain as "a shovel"
i tried plugging the board as is into x360pro usb, and it doesnt find it.
i want to try and fix it but i dont want to make things worse, so i was hoping for a little guidance on where to start.
the 360 can have the rgh mod done, so if i need the key i should be ok, hopefully the pcb will be revived including the key)
if the pcb is toast can i fit a liteon from a Phat in the slim with mods to the drive legs etc? i have done a search and come up with that it should be possible post rgh, but i found some problems encountered on previous attampts with the fcrt.bin? but i am unsure what this file is or what i need to do to work around the problem.
any tips would be appreciated

If you haven't got the original dummy.bin then there isn't much you can do to save the drive even if you RGH it and get the key.

Slim drives need more data than just the key and obtaining the key alone will not boot games from the dvd drive.

As best option is to get it RGH and play games of the HDD or if the MT chip is intact then transplant it onto another PCB and then dump the firmware of it then it can be saved.

thanks for the quick reply, the guy who i got it from says he has a jungleflasher dump of the original drive, he is gonna email it to me later.
if the pcb can be repaired then i would be able to use the drive, or make a firmware dump. so if the rgh method wont help to revive the drive, then its repair the pcb or no dvd drive for games?
the damage appears to be just the trace cut "shovel method"
if someone could recommend some one who could have a go at the repair, or advice on how i should attempt it that would be great

hi,
thanks for the previous comments, i decided to have a go at fixing the pcb, the guy who originally tried the mod and messed up sent me the dummy.bin he extracted before he messed up.
providing the dummy.bin is correct it gives me more options i presume? like replacment pcb/drive etc.

i found a couple of alternate points on the pcb to reconnect the two pads that are missing.
i asked a friend who has more skill than i to solder the connections
i have checked for connectivity and all appears ok.
however the drive is dead when connected to the 360 or ck3.
any help would be appreciated, or is the pcb just fried?
without a spare drive or rgh the slim i cannot verify the dummy.bin i have been sent.
the pcb feels hot in places when its connected to the ck3.
got a feeling this maybe the end of this pcb :-(

couple of pics showing pcb fix attempt.
the top pic shows a white wire that does not appear to reach the small component, however i can assure you using a magnifier it is securely attached to component on the chip side of the mediatek chip.
as i said continuity has been checked too
