Dashboard Boot Priority Question

I recently installed the Xecuter3 with a 80GB Western Digital Harddrive to an Xbox ver 1.0. I flashed the chip with the X3 bios build 1959 and used Slayers Auto Installer. Every thing works fine except for the Dashboard Boot Priority. I have unleash.xbe,avalaunch.xbe,evoxdash.xbe,xbmc.xbe and of course xboxdash.xbe. When I try to set one of them as the priority (avalaunch for example) nothing happens. When I use the reboot to dash function, it always boots to evoxdash.xbe. I have my Dashboard boot drive set to C. Am I missing something?

I am having the exact same problem! I will tag along for this ride :D

Evox dash works fine but when I set avalaunch as first boot priority nothing. I changed the drive priority to F: where avalaunch is installed and the same problem.

are you putting the dashes in different folders or are they in the root of f:\ drive?

the x3 bios has a problem reading from directories that are too long.

Im not at home to verify but I think slayers evox installer installed avalaunch into the F: directory under programs/avalaunch/..
I alst tried setting the boot drive to f: but no go....

Not sure but this sounds good:

All dashboards need to be on the same drive... If you have the dashboard drive marked as F then it will search for all the xbe's for the dashboard in the root of F...

Do you have all the dashboard.xbe's in the root of your F ? I figure some are on C where the X3 will not go and search since you told it to look in F ..

It appears that the evox xbe is on c: whereas the avalaunch xbe is on f: I need to be in front of my xbox for verification but everything is still pretty fresh in my mind. :D

I can still use avalaunch but I have to use it through evox instead of booting straight to avalaunch :? Avalaunch is an option I can select through the evox dash but of course the goal is to boot into avalaunch .

No the evox dash is on c:
I think avalaunch is on f: (applications/avalaunch/)

F then it will search for all the xbe's for the dashboard in the root of F...
When I changed the boot drive to F where avalunch is and set avalaunch as the primary dashboard in the x3 bios it still would not reboot to avalaunch but If I change it back to the c: and evox as primary it boots to evox just fine...

That perfectly proves my point... Do me a favour and move all your dashboards to the same drive and change the dashboard/boot drive to that drive letter...

It will work then...

Statement: all dashboards need to be on the same drive (in theory I -THINK- you can give a complete path for the filename to give priority over the dashboard drive parameter... But in real life it will not work since the path is limited to a fixed number of character.

If this does -not- work then it looks like you have found an error... But to be honoust its such an obvious one that more people would have noticed it probably...

Flung all the stuff on C and I will put a beer on it that it will work.. .It does here and this thing is mass-produced :)

Ok, bet! :D

What is odd is the slayer evox installer installed evox dashboard on c: and installed avalaunch on f: A little favoritism perhaps? Questions:

1.) Avalaunch is on f: along with the rest of the applications slayer evox installed(except evox dash). All of these programs are accessable via the evox menu including avalaunch, If by moving avalaunch form the f: to the c: will this effect the evox menu or mess anything up?

2.) What exactly do I move pertaining to avalaunch to the c: drive? The entire folder: f:/applications/avalaunch ? Should I move the entire contents of f: to c: ?

p.s. I have a brand new install on a new hard drive(160gb). The only software I have installed on the hd is slayers evox installer with apps and skins for evox and avalaunch.

This board has been awesome in helping even a n00b like me so I would like to thank you all. This board is only as good as the members on it and you are an awesome bunch....

Just put any xbe file that you may want to boot from in the root of C, then set the box to look in C for the dashboards. If you change the dashboard priority it will still look in the same place (C:), it will just look for a different file first. And it doesn't scan the whole drive, so you need to make sure the xbe's are in the root.

Do I need to use my PC and a crossover cable to move the dashboard files?
You can also ftp in from your computer to your xbox or you can use one of the file manager apps on your xbox...

Okay, one more question and I will shut up for awhile. Is there a way to actually move avalaunch.xbe from the F drive to the C drive using the XBOX itself? I tried using boXplorer only to find out later that it can't even move files. Avalaunch itself has a file program but I couldn't figure out how to move the file with it, if that is even possible because I don't think you can use the same program to move its own files. If it isn't possible, I am going to get crossover cable to use my PC to move it.

you can use xbmc to do this. in 'my files' there is a way to select files (the source) and then move them somewere else (the destination).

i have done this before but i cant remember of the top of my head how exactly to do it (i normaly use ftp), But it will work using xbmc.

If you didn't ftp it on there the first time, I'm assuming you used a CD or DVD. If this is the case, just use the avalaunch file manager to copy from the CD/DVD to the C drive.

XboX Media Center will move files between partitions, rename folders and files, browse files on your windows SMB shares( Windows XP shared Folders or Drives) among many other wonderful things. Now if I could just get my xbox to boot into XBMC, i would be laughing.... Damn no skins <tag> error.....

oops, didn't see the second page. kudos goes to ther other guy :?
