Dashboard/Console Update Released Today! Anyone Updated Yet?

Hi everyone.

As you may already know, a mandatory console/dashboard update was released on Live today. I am running iXtreme 1.2c and wondering if anyone else using it has updated and had problems or been banned?

Microsoft have stated that the update only contains support for the new Wireless Guitars that are being released in a few months, but I find it hard to believe that they would make a mandatory update for this alone when there are a few bugs still to be addressed (such as Auto Sign-In using WiFi). Why would they not just include this guitar support with the upcoming games in which they are used??

Also many people have reported that since the update the cooling fans in the console run a lot faster & therefore much louder!

I would love to hear from anyone who has any more info or from anyone who has a modded box that has updated already to hear if they are having problems or been banned.

This upgrades the dashboard and kernel from 2.0.5759.0 to 2.0.5766.0.
As always, update at your own risk!! It's always possible MS added more security (detecting FW modded DVD drives or the discs, fixing a kernel exploit, ...). For now there seems to be no banning, but it's too early to tell, certainly considering MS likes to collect info and ban with a delay or at a specific time.

Well, after much debating I decided to restore my DVD drive to original FW (just in case, whether it would make any difference or not should this update be suspicious who knows!) and updated my console with this new update.

A few things I have noticed:

It is obviously not just an update for the upcoming wireless guitars as the Auto Sign-In on WiFi now works which it did not before the update. So there was obviously some general updates/fixes to the console/dashboard too.

Another strange thing is as soon as my console restarted after the update and I went to play Gears Of War there was a game update to download.

I thought maybe the update had reset the (not so) secret maintainance option and deleted all game updates, so tried a couple more of my games that I know I have downloaded updates for and they play without any new updates, so that rules out this theory? Not just a coincidence surely!? I think not.

I have not noticed any increase in the fan noise or speed like some people are reporting.

Anyway, online at the moment & will keep people posted.

Will wait a bit before I reflash my DVD drive with 1.2C again.

Just updated and I have iXtreme 1.2c, so far so good, its only been a couple of hours and i haven't played any backed up games yet but we will see.

ive just got the ring ov death, after i refused the update maybe its just coz im a cheap bastard and only replaced the themal paste lol

lol If your gonna take it all apart to put paste on it you may as well have done the x-clamp mod to permenantly fix it! :roll:
