Hi, excuse my ignorance, i am a newbie to this.

I have a xbox version 1.4 chipped with x3. It was modded and came preloaded with bios x3 3029. It automatically boots to x3 config screen.

I have two dvd's, one of slayers 2.6 and one of auto installer version 2.

I want to load avalaunch as my dash which is on the auto installer disc, i load the disc in the xbox, it loads up on to the installer screen. When i go into the option to download the dash it comes up with error on the bar when downloading to the hdd ( i think it said error 3)

I was mistaken in thinking it would be that easy to download? do i have to have my flash protect off on my front panel? also in x3 config there is an option to boot to dash in preference, on their it has avalaunch, xbmc and a few others on there. When i tried to set pref to avalaunch it tries to boot and then goes back to ms dash.

Any suggestions?

thanks

paul

Hi there,

firstly you said you got an error 3 you think. Now firstly might you be able to check this error code. The number it gives you depends on the actual problem so you need to be accurate! Was the error number given on a screen that says your xbox needs to be serviced?

secondly that screen in X3 Config Live where the dashboard are listed is your boot order, so for example if you have it set to:

1 - avalaunch.xbe
2 - evoxdash.xbe
3 - xbmc.xbe
4 - xboxdash.xbe

it will look on your hard drive for these dashboards, so if avalaunch is not found it will look for evoxdash, then xbmc and finally if none of those are found will boot your retail ms dashboard. So that's why it is going back to the ms dash, because avalaunch has not made it to your hard disk.

double check that error code and we'll take it from there!

Yes, i dont believe that no other dashes have been installed, i was trying to install via the disc. When trying to download it sid error 3 (once) the other time it just said error. it tried to download. according to the info on x3 config, i have 4.73gb spare on F: drive.

I have only the retail hdd. Could it be that i must have the banks on the front panel set to on on off off ?

it should not need servicing, it has only just been modded and until recently not used very much.

Can i ftp the dashes even though the only dash i have is x3 config?

thanks for your help

okay the first thing that jumped out at me is you stated X3 config live is reporting you have 4.73GB free on F. Are you sure it said F not E. As you are using the stock drive you should not have an F drive!!!!

What bios are you using - is it the latest 3294?

If you have a 1Mb X3 bios flashed to banks 1+2+3+4 then yes your switches should be ON ON OFF OFF and flash protect ON.

I am not suggesting your xbox actually needs servicing. I am trying to acetain what generated the error message 3. Do you think it was the Autoinstall deluxe package? Normally an error like that is generated on a screen that says your xbox needs a service, it that what you have seen or was the error generated by autoinstall deluxe?

X3 Config Live is not really a dashboard so to speak - it's the bios itself. But yest you should be able to use X3 config live to FTP to your hard drive.

Sorry it was E: drive. I have x3 3029 as installed by kanection. It was an auto installer disc version 2, that i had the problem with .

It was an error message while trying to download auto installer. I will admit that the banks on the control switch on the front of the xbox was not set to "on on off off on". May be this had something to do with it?

On the auto installer v2 i chose apps- then to dashes, to avalaunch .

i am sure it only gave two options, send to large hdd ( E+F)

and larger hdd ( E+F+G)

now you see I don't use autoinstaller deluxe but that does not sound right. All autoinstaller disks should be capable of stock hard disk. You do not Have large hdd E+F or larger hdd E+F+G. You need to use stock hard disk functions and send avalaunch to the C drive. The c drive is where your X3 will look for dashboard by default.

retail(E)
large(E+F)
larger(E+F+G)
