Quick question Google didn't help at all. I have a Xenon motherboard and what I am wondering is if I updated the dashboard to 7371 for freeBOOT will I need a hard drive to take the update?

I know the Xenon has a 16MB flash and didn't know if it needs that hard drive to apply the update. Will it take the update as far as it needs to install freeBOOT without a hard drive?

In principal, you shouldn't need a HDD. A HDD will be needed for avatars, signing onto XBL (not recommened) and other features. So go ahead and update the dash to 7371 and proceed with the JTAG. However a jtag machine with no HDD is really of not much use.

Okay, sounds good thanks for the help. And yea I am probably going to pickup a 120GB hard drive soon. Don't want to use the hard drive from my legit console I use on XBL. The issue is that I used some cut-up CAT5 cable and ran it out of the side which happens to be exactly where the hard drive. I am going to re-solder it up but I am wondering what did you guys use for wires that you soldered for the JTAG? Cat5 is just too strong of cable, any cable that is more flexible? I feel like I am going to pull it to hard and tug it out of the board.

I use 8 core alarm bell wiring, the cores are only slightly thicker than original NAND-X wires. Why 120gb? Once it's jtagged you don't have to use MS offical HDD anymore, just get a HDD enclosure or remove the HDD from a stock one and use the biggest 2.5" hard drive you could find out there. You can probably get a 500gb or more for the same price of a 120gb MS HDD.

Thanks I will try to look for some wire of that at my local Ratshack. Also I do have a 500GB external hard drive. Will that work for the correct speed? Like if I wanted to play games off it, is the USB fast enough to work just a SATA HDD 2.5" hard drive?
