in the process of trying to get my x2.6 to work on my 1.0 xbox...i think i killed my hd...it makes the clicking noise of death or watever, and when i turn it on even with the chip out i get the blubber animation but it freezes on the x-screen even before it shows the ms logo...the thing is i never dropped the hd or anything like that...have in mind that this was a used xbox but a hd failing after a couple of hours of being purchased doesnt seem rite, used or not...so my questions are...is it for sure that the drive is dead or might it be something else that causes the clicking noise...and if it is dead, did it die of natural causes or did i somehow kill it while trying to fix the chip? thanks a lot guys

Try a game DVD

If a retail game dvd works with the Chip out, than it may just be the C:\xboxdash.xbe got corrupted/toasted. I don't know the boot sequence exactly, but I think it doesn't display "Microsoft" / "Executer" until a bootable .xbe file is found (Correct me if I'm wrong here). If you can boot a retail game with the chip out, you should be able to boot to an Evox Boot CD with the chip in. Then you can further check the status of your HDD.

okay, so is it possible to flash a chip without a harddrive?...if i can do that then i can probably use my AID2 dvd to try to fix the hd rite? whan i've been doing is pluggin in a badly formatted hd and i get the flash bios screen, but when i try to flash it nothing happens, and i'm wondering if its because of the bad hd?

How are you trying to flash? What do you mean nothing happens? Does the progress bar show up, or does the Xbox lock up?

What bios is on the chip right now? If it is a hacked bios that will allow you to run software, download FlashX. Otherwise, try getting a programmer, and see if that fixes your problem.
