If the original nand has a bad block at block 20. Will we need to remap it on the demons nand?

I've spent almost all day on this one xbox. dashboard version 14719 cb version 9230. First I use a coolrunner rev A it would never boot in to xell. So I tried a coolrunner rev C.. Still wouldn't boot into xell.... So I tried a cr3 lite and a DemoN. original nand will boot on retail side and DemoN side(disable coorunner for it to boot). Write the ECC to DemoN nand using j-runner app. still not booting.

CR3 Lite Jumper Settings
LK1 - Short (Disable Crystal)
LK2 - Short (Disable 10 Ohm on CPU_RST)
LK3 - Open (C15 Disable)
LK4 - All Open

I let the j-runner pick which timing file the coolrunner is using.

I not going to clean of the board until i get it working.
Took this picture as it was trying to glitch

you should use a thicker Ground wire for the external usb nand reader, for a better nand read, that orange wire is to thin, that might help you out for getting bad blocks

I used a 360nandflasher to get the image before I wired up the demon. You right though I do need bigger ground but that not causing the problem right now.

You shouldn't need to remap bad blocks for the DemoN, so writing the ECC directly to it should be enough.

Set DIPs on the CR3 so 1 and 5 are on.

A better image of your CPU_RST repair is required too.

Martin, i have a little question...

Not trying to hijack as ht eproblem is already solved.

I had a demon installed wich had a invalid block at 0x29E, that popped up at the first time testing the nand. Even tried to erase it with the toolbox but still the invalid block.
I ignored it and installed anyway.
nand reading from the Xbox whent fine...everything else went ok but when i tried to write to the demon itself JRunner crashed 4 out off 5 times...the 5th i got lucky and JR let me write the Xbox nand and ECC ( with the invalid block)...grabbed the key and made a glitch image. flashed to the demon (crashed again a couple of times) again with the invalid block.
After that tested as always but after powering up the demon rgh nand gives me an E79 system error. Tried to boot in Xell but that works cause there were no invalid blocks in that area. I could not solve it because of the invalid block...

Was that a hardware failure in the nand? Or is there a way to move invalid blocks?

I deinstalled the demon and returned it to my retailer, got a new one and this ons works fine.

Well yeah, you'd need to manually remap the block on the DemoN at 0x29E as it's a bad block.

I would expect pro installers to know how to handle bad blocks BTW.....

Thanks Martin and Joesinger47, i did'nt know that an invalid block could be handled as a bad block and i'm used (spoiled) that JR remaps automatically. The hand job was ages ago ;) Next time i'll try the advanced write feature.

dit a search for the prob on the forum but couldnt find a similair case...so thanks guys for helping!

DemoN is a nice peace of work by the way...a little expensive perhaps but it has Class A written all over it!

I knew you would of seen the CPU_RST repair if no one else did. If u must have a pic , i'll post one. The xbox will boot just fine on the retail nand on and on the demon nand with the original nand back up. I had the DIPS on 1 and 5. In that pic I was messing around with the DIPS trying to get it to boot.

Out of 150+ jtags and a good 30 RGHs done I've never had a problem with bad blocks.

I'm guilty of not playing with this feature :s
I seen it remapped the ecc when using the retail nand. When I didn't have the demon and was using the coolrunner rev A and C. When it writes the ecc to the demon it doesn't do any remapping. Which is the main reason I asked.. I can't get this one to glitch. I've put this xbox to the side for now I got 2 more I need to get done. I didn't have to do the CPU_RST until after I removed the coolrunner rev C shielded cable. So as a side note it wouldn't glitch on the retail with the ecc block 20 remapped to 3FF and will still not glitch with the demon when its not having to remap block 20 because block 20 on the demon nand is good..
