I don't understand why almost every post question about DemoN install is followed by "You know that Demon install is for pros only" everyone started as a noob, why not let us know the mistakes and tricks you guys learned so we don't do the same. We are aware of the risk of "fubaring" our system, and some like me, ordered practice solder boards/ and PCB to get my skills up before I go to town on my machine. It's seems like some are just interested in expanding business by perpetuating for fear of trying! I hope when I get to the install phase that people on the forum that day are geared to help not press play, "DemoN is a pro install only"

you can try all you want as the install guides are out there to follow.. but you should also know it is a product intended for pro installers and if and when you do F*** it up, then remember that this is a product support forum and not a help me fix my F*** up forum .. good luck :)

There is just a lot involved and some people on here have been doing this (some for a living) for a long time. So teaching every little tip and trick would be a waste of time, not to mention a potential waste of a console for an amateur. I agree that if you are competent at soldering and have a solid understanding of how the rgh works then anyone, not just a "pro", could do it. But usually that's not the case. Most people order it and then try installing it and something goes wrong and they want step by step instructions on how to fix it. They just wish to avoid that. Some people could stand to use more tact when explaining it, but it's the truth. These are not easy to install.

I you have the right equipment and are competent with a soldering iron, then go for it.(I would suggest 15 watts for the iron. And dont forget the flux,) I thought the demon install was easier the first time than the Stby_Clk point for a coolrunner/nand-x qsb. Also if you are scared, then you could just use extra wire and use the solder pads instead of the qsb points.(Harder to acedentally burn points off the motherboard.)

Thank you both, Chase when I do attempt and hopefully I don't [email protected]$$ it up, it's a risk I'm willing to take. All I'm asking is for product assistance from those that have installed before. Brock, I understand where your coming from also, it gets "old" after awhile, but take each case individually. I've ordered all supplies needed and a lot of practice equipment, I want to succeed, and asking questions about a product on a form dedicated to product assistance and expecting some assistance wouldn't be a stretch, correct??

Certainly not. But most folks around here aren't the best at PR. Good luck to you.

There is lots that can be "hard" about this. It takes physical skill and a sh*t load of knowledge. Don't be so nonchalant about it.

Thanks honey funky, gavin-darkglide, that's what I'm looking for, tips from those that have done it before. and Brock 100% on, a lot of responders are not in PR business, its sad that they are the ones that respond frequently!! I will take my time, no rush, but I hope when I do and have questions, individuals like you all will offer any input and hopefully it will be a another good install of TX products!!

I just installed my first demon a few days ago. It went without a problem. Read, read, and read some more. My advantage was the system was already rghed so I knew that was working. The install guide has about all the info you need or there are links to it with the exception of the orange and brown wires which I didn't use anyway. As was said previously, a decent understanding or rgh is recommend. WARNING: If you can't solder you will have problems. Be sure you are honest with yourself as to your level of expertise. If you are ok at soldering then you better pass. Thats my 2 cents.

I'll try and help you understand. There is a reason why the demon is recommended to be installed by a professional, it's very simple really.
This is a Team Xecuter product, they manufactured it and as such, have recommended it be installed professionally, why you ask? Because the skill level needed for a working installation should be provided by someone doing this work on a daily basis, not someone new to it (and by new, I mean NEW as in never touched a soldering iron)
There seems to be a misinterpretation by some people here that these forums should be providing support for noobs for EVERYTHING, that we should hold their hands and guide them with everything, even difficult installations like the DemoN. (yes, I said difficult, cause for a newb, it is as such) This level of support expected is NOT provided by other manufacturers with their products so why expect it here?
When you go to a hardware store and buy a new boiler for your central heating, it's recommended to be installed by a professional (for many reasons), if you've never installed one before, would you expect the manufacturer to provide you with a step by step guide (and/or 24/7 support)?
Professionals understand more about this process than just the installation. My first DemoN installation was on my own console, even with all my experience in soldering (made my first fm radio when I was 11, I'm 41) if I thought for a min it was beyond my skillset, I would send it to a pro.

I never assume the install would be easy, and your analogy of installing products in your home makes since, but before for you would attempt that type of install, a basic knowledge of plumbing/Soldering and equipment would be needed. And when you do attempt to install, (which I've done other house hold things electrical service upgrades, hot water tanks, roofing, hardwood floors, ceramic tile, floating floors, showers, sinks and tubs...multiple times first couple installs went a little rough) I did go back to hardware store, call manufacturers, and check out the products websites. And the individuals who represented, sold, and/or new how to install the products were more than eager to be helpful. And at the end, if I still had question they would push the play button and say, "if your still having issue call a plumber/installer " My point is instead of greeting most of all the post that involves something that is not an easy task with the "play button" rate your noob! If it's a legit questions, a legit answer would be helpful, not "you know the demoN is a pro install" l love to learn new things, and love teaching what I've learned, it seems sometimes a rare quality!!

Things you need to do a DemoN install:

Good quality soldering iron/flux/braid.
experience with soldering to smd via pads less then 2mm in diameter.
experience with trace repair (for if/when you f**k up)
experience with a multimeter for testing voltage/resistance.
experience with RGH installs and a sound understanding of the RGH process.
common sense
good troubleshooting skills.

Once you have all of these, you're in a good position to attempt an install.

The DemoN comes with a card which tells you it's for professional installation.
To use your analogy, in the UK you need to be certified to install anything on a gas supply. You wouldn't ignore this advice, would you?

Thank you, in the us "ohio" they want you to be certified or take a test before you change an electrical outlet. Im not comparing demoN install to changing an outlet, but sometimes with the right tools and a little guidance we would know that in outlet wiring " white to silver, black to brass and copper to ground" and if your a noob, turn the power off first!!
