Demon pre install

Hi, first time with a demon and I'm just seeking clarification.

The Demon hasn't yet been installed as it was my understanding that it was good practice to check everything worked before installing.

I updated to the latest firmware 1.04 which went successfully. Then I tried to flash a nand to the Demon (not installed) but get the message

ERROR: Unknown NAND-flash device id 0xAD77 reported.
Please verify correct installation!

The Demon NAND is definitely selected and I toggled NANDs a few times to be sure, I have tried both the on-board micro USB with 2 separate cables and the mini USB on the extension board thing with 2 separate cables but always receive the same message.

This has been attempted on XP, 7 & 8 with the same results.

Maybe i'm interpreting the instructions wrong but I assumed that the Demon NAND could be written and read back to verify that it was working before installation.

have you switched the switch on the DemoN to pc
The PC/XB switch, yes that is set to PC.

Drivers are installed and firmware upgrades work fine so I assume the PC can *talk* to the Demon

So the DemoN is set to PC and you're using a micro-USB cable connected directly to the DemoN PCB? Can you post a pic?

Please advise any other pictures you need. Both USB connecting methods result in the same error.

Thanks

I would say there's a fault between the controller and the NAND, causing the ID to be wrong (should be 0xAD73). Contact your reseller and get a replacement.

This is why we advise you test before installation :)

EDIT: Did you test before you updated? Have you tried to update the firmware again using that same cable? (looks like it's from a Kindle)

I don't suppose it could have occurred due to the firmware update could it? Would downgrading to 1.02 help and if so do you know where a download is available?

Thanks

Looking at this Demon board, if you have one on hand could you advise if R12 should be populated? as on this board it isnt. Also R8

There's nothing wrong with the 1.04 firmware. I would try to reapply it.

I have tried with the kindle cable and also my external hard drive cable on the micro USB, never tested before the FW update, wasn't suggesting there was a problem with 1.04 but was just asking if that was the possible cause.

Already tried to re-apply the FW update, still the same

No - they should be as-is AFAIK.

Just contact your reseller and get a replacement. You've tested before installation which is exactly why the micro-USB is there.

The problem with my Demon is a poor solder joint on the square TX branded IC just in case anyone is interested and has this issue in future

EDIT: a reflow of the IC in question appears to have fixed the issue
