I have a small block demon installed to a zephyr console. The console keeps red ringing and I'm done with it. I want to remove the demon and put it on another console. Can I do so if so how? I have a infrared rework station and preheater.

What are you doing with an infrared rework station and a preheater if you don't have the confidence to remove a demon?

If the console is RROD'd you don't have to be quite as careful, but it would be good practice since you won't be ruining an Xbox during the removal.

Lots of flux, solder wick, and an iron should get the job done just fine.

I think I saw someone (might have been Martin C) had the idea to slide grease proof paper or similar underneath while melting each point. Seems worth a try to me.

Yep, that works well. Use the backing of a TX sticker and flux the points well. melt the solder and push the paper in between the QSB and the via on the motherboard to break the connection.

I think you'd be impressed (I am) with some of the wizards with tons of fine soldering skills on here can do as far as trace repairs go. If you've lifted pads that are beyond your skill to repair post over in the "Request for Service" section with some pics and I bet someone can fix you up.

yea If it was really important I would but I'm just selling the console as a regular rgh but I have no doubt someone here could repair the traces

The traces don't need repairing if you don't plan on fitting a DemoN again.

However, if you did decide to install your DemoN again, you would need to solder directly to the NAND pins which isn't a simple task.

I plan on tackling this procedure sometime this week.
When I tried to do the paper trick on a QSB, i still lifted pads.
Looking back i think it was my 15w iron not providing enough heat to use desoldering braid efficiently, and not keeping the solder molten when the paper made contact.
As mentioned, with no intention of installing a Demon on said system, pad lifting isnt critical for normal/rgh operation?

if you plan for console to be operational no you cannot lift any pads.

the pads used for the demon install are manufacturer test points. you can rip them all off and the console will still boot from stock nand. i would not recommend this, but dont worry about it if you plan on selling it as an rgh console anyway.
