Well, i spent the past hour reading through the forums, and it appears i simply need jungleflasher and to read the tutorials before posting a question, but it seems all the links to the tutorials and downloads are broken.

what is happening is i have an xbox with a bad hitachi drive, i tried to replace it with a benq drive from another box, and of course no games can be played. so main question is, do i need to get the key from the old hitachi drive (with jungleflasher i assume, but where do i get it?), then spoof the xbox into thinking the benq drive is the hitachi?

or easier, can i just mod this thing in order to play games? its for my son in law who doesn't need to be on live, just wants to play some games.

I am sorry if this is stupid question, but honestly with half these links down, i dont know where to go.

When u say bad Hitachi drive then what do u mean, cos it could be something simple as changing the laser.
You can't spoof drives anymore. U need like for like drive model.
You will need to extract the key from original drive and inject it in the new drive with stock firmware or Lt firmware.
If u are not bothered about live then rgh/jtag is a good way to go. You can use any drive as long as the key matches.
Rgh/jtag u can play all your games from any HDD without needing the discs.
U will need to find out what motherboard u have,cos not all xboxs can be modded with rgh/jtag. Does your xbox have a HDMI port?

thanks Geekheat! I have a xenon board, NO hdmi. can i mod with rgh/jtag? do i still need like for like drive?

and the hitachi drive just would read and read and never play the game. is replacing laser an option?

I would replace the laser if its not reading disc.
you can't mod Xenon motherboards with rgh. so if u want to go down the rgh route then get yourself another xbox, jasper or trinity I would suggest.

rgh is not really a viable option with xenon, jtag is only for xbox 360's not updated past 7371. so only if you are on dashboard 7371 or below will that work.
If the drive just stopped working one day then yes changing the laser is worth a shot, you could also google "pot tweak xbox360 laser" and get a little bit more life out of the laser in the drive and if it does work you will know for sure that the laser is going bad. You are basically adding a bit more power to the weak laser by doing a "pot tweak". Well worth a try if you ask me.

Can anyone help me ? I always used verbs for burned games then i used poor DL discs of Phillips i played bo2 and the laser made so much noise i turned my xbox off and then ibgot the open tray problem i replaced my dvd drive and replaced my own pcb in it now i got a phillips poor DL too of dragon ball xenoverse it makes sounds of the laser but the game plays great my question is does poor discs damage my dvd drive?

Its probably making you drive work 10times harder than it should so yeah don't use anything must the verbs from Singapore. The tutorial says that for a reason.

Phat Hitachi and Samsung lasers are crap anyway. Some struggle reading xdg3 backup games. Liteon /benq a lot better.
