Guys I have made an install error on my X3 install and I need to de-solder and re-solder the LPC pins. I am in need of some assistance though. I am very frustrated...many of you speak with ease of how you desoldered the pins. I have all the materials in the world and desoldering is frighteningly impossible. Yes I have read the guides, and I have a 15-watt and 30-watt iron. I have flux, and resin-core solder. I have solder-braid and a solder-sucker. Yet, even with all these things, I am unable to desolder the pin. I have spent days trying, just today I spent 2.5 hours and I did not even get one pin free of solder? Can someone help me? What do I do? How is this braid or sucker not working....? how am I expected to get the solder from the tiny crevices in the hole?

tip the braid like a spear and dip it in flux, then heat up the solder with the iron and wait for the solder to get liquid, then place the copper braid spear into the molten solder and repeat

the problem is, the solder doesn't turn to liquid...what am I doing wrong? Is the solder I used bad? I used: Radio Shack Light-Duty Rosin-Core Solder .032 dia 60/40

and before I used lead free solder. Help?

a solder sucker is probably easier...

What I did with mine is prop that one side (with the LPC holes towards the end) up and pulled up a chair so that I could load and set the solder sucker overtop the hole I wanted to desolder (put it over it - touching the board...so you'll suck up as little air as possible) ...then just touched the existing solder with my iron from the bottom...came out nicely

it is definitely hot, i burn myself, and then when i put solder for the spool, it melts, as well as i see smoke, but the solder on the LPC joints dont melt at all...this is really confsuing, everyone speaks about how easy it is, but i am literally spending 4 hours a day tryin to desolder for the past two weeks, using as many tools as i can find and progress is about 0.05%

Is your tip nice and clean and tinned, get some Tip Tinner Cleaner can be bought form maplin if in U.K order code JG06G or Radioshack.
Once your tip is tinned apply a little new solder to it then it should be alot easier to remove and use the sucker braid is a bitch.

with the 30w iron, the solder should melt almost instantly and you only want to be putting the iron on the solder for a second so as not to damage the board.

The way I desolder is to get some braid, lay it on top of the solder you want to remove and then apply the iron to the braid.

The braid should then suck up the solder and you then remove it before it cools and joins to the board.

I have a 15w and an 18w iron and neither of those get hot enough at the tip to melt the solder so I have to use the 30w and be very quick.

YEs or u could buy a new tip and put it on. Make sure the iron is hot and a constant heat is applied and it should heat up. try to heat the solder not the bord as well, reason less likelyhood of damage. If your using a 30watt. :D

I had the same problem I was using a Weller WTCPT, using a 700F Conical tip. These two damn spots wouldn't melt at all and I had direct contact with them. So I used a baby pin and lightly tapped the end with the end of my torx driver, and got a hole big enough to get the pin header through.
