JTAG Desoldering issue

Hey!

I'm going to use the pin headers for a Xenon i got here. On the last couple of Xenons there was no problems in getting the pre-filled solder out from these holes using my iron and a desolder pump on the opposite side of the mb.

On this console there are 2 holes where the solder is impossible to melt. My iron has no effect at all on these spots. My obvious guess is that my 15W iron is to weak for these. Do any of you have some advice other than getting a more powerful iron?

Thanks in advance!

40w or adjutable temp soldering iron would do the job, but you got to be quick and fast else you could damage the whole point.

are you fluxing it ??? might make it a bit easier
wonders if you have ever jtagged a xbox... no matter how much flux you use on this certain point it will not melt... the point where we connect the yellow nandx cable... i usally overcome this by turning up the temps and using a long needle and heating it up to remove the solder from the point and then refill it.... the needle i got here is about 4 inches long..

Flux doesn't help. Have cleaned with isopropanol and even added extra solder for the heat to spread better but to no avail. Guess I need a hipper iron or a master axe.

Thanks guys!

why dont you just use the direct Wires (Cut off the pin header block from the pin header cable)
I might do that. Can't put the wire in the hole but could solder it "ontop" I guess. To bad I need to cut the cable. Would be nice if I could get an extra pin header block cable.

try adding some solder and it should melt.
Already tried that which I wrote above, lol!

yep thats the way cool.

i personally prefer direct wire, the yellow point can be a bitch without using a fair bit of heat and i find that risky. although ive had a few where they have cleared out no problem. now to copy what cool has done lol.

Or you could simply solder to any other ground point on the board :p

I've got similar on my LPC-2148 header, but the bare ends are a lot shorter :D

Trying to re-use multi-strand cable is a no-no!
