Hi guys,
First of all, hello! This is my first post on the board
I am a complete beginner when it comes to Xbox Repair / Modding.
My little cousin’s Xbox 360 stopped reading discs and I was asked to have a look at it as I have messed around with the likes of computers in the past.
When I agreed…..I didn’t realise how different the two were!! LOL.
The drive was a LITEON DG-16D2S 74850C and after doing some research I decided the best option would be to order a replacement drive and swap the PCB board.
However after receiving the new (identical drive) I came to notice that there are wires which are soldered in.
Now I have never soldered before or removed wires that have been soldered and so I stopped in case I caused any damage and decided to do some further research, however the more I read the more I seem to confuse myself!
I have spent a couple of nights reading info around the net but can’t seem to quite put it together.
I am wondering what the best option is, should I remove the wires using a knife and then re-solder them? Or should I extract the key from the old drive and flash the new drive with the old key.
Also does anybody know of a guide / post which will explain what equipment I will need for flashing this drive and extracting the key?
Thanks in advance, I will GREATLY appreciate any help anybody can provide me with, I am greatly confused right now!

If you just want to fix the drive and keep Stock Firmware on it and dont want to get into modding so you can play backups of your originals, then find someone who has the tools to get the key off the old drive and flash the new drive for you.

You may be able to just replace the laser on the old drive (or swap board).

If you want to get into modding, buy the kit on one of the TX "where to buy" links
