DHCP Failed

noob needing some help. Have a 1.6 or 1.6B and installed the X3. All seems to work fine. Booted to both M$ and Cromwell 3.0.0 several times with no problems. I downloaded X3_1959 and am trying to flash it via HTTP but that is where the problem is. When I tell it to "enable network flashing" it waits a while and tells me "DHCP Failed - failing back to 192.168.0.99" I tried punching that into IE but it doesn't give me anything. I have it all running through a netgear hub DSL router is uplink and this computer and Xbox are the only things on it. I have confirmed all cables are good and tried different ports on the hub. Firewall is off and antivirus is off. I've also tried pinging it and don't get anything however the LED on the NIC, Hub, and X3 switchboard all blink when I try to get to it. I'm guessing I have something on my computer or the network setup incorrectly but I have tried everything I can think of and can't find anything in the forums. Any help would be much appreciated.

Look into your PC TCP/IP properties that your PC is in the same network (ex. TCP address 192.168.0.3 Mask 255.255.255.0 for the PC)
You can issue the IPCONFIG on a command window and see the parameters of the Ethernet adapter LAN to verify this.

If firewall isn't blocking anything and you are on the same network and the network cables are not faulty you should be able to ping the xbox by issing ping 192.168.0.99

Hope this helps.

checked that and my PC isn't on the same subnet 192.168.1.3 but that shouldn't matter as far as pinging it. I can ping google.com and it's nothing close to me. Also, a little more clarification for my original post, I have the cromwell bios (don't know what version) but the 3.0.0 is the version of FlashBios.

dude, you HAVE to be on the same subnet as your xbox or you will never be able to connect to it. as far as pinging google, your router takes care of the translations.

makes sense. Thanks. So I'm guessing the easiest way to do that would be to disconnect the dsl router and force a static .0 subnet IP to the PC?

Also, any idea why the xbox isn't just pulling an IP through DHCP as it should?

and you need a crossover cable also.

EDIT:

No i don't know why your xbox will not get an ip from your router. some ppl have had success with the dhcp and other can't get an ip. it could be your router settings are not allowing your xbox to get an ip. i myself do not like dhcp, i like to use static ip subnets for better control over my network. what you can do is set your router to a privite ip ( such as 192.168.x.x or 10.1.x.x) and set your pc and xbox to the same subnet after you get to the chip flashed and the x3cl loaded.

OK. Forcing my PC to the .0 subnet worked but now the question is where is everyone getting .bin bios files from. All I see are .rar files

Re: What firmware is this drive flashed with?

nope, shouldn't be any hassle at all, I flashed my friends 360 with LT and he had the Liteon 1.6 firmware I think, all you do is flash it back to the stock firmware, in your case the 74850 original lite on, connect to xbox live, and test the connection to see if it asks for any system updates. if it does, then update the system and then once thats done, flash it again with the new LT firmware and u should be all good. If it doesn't ask you for an update when you have the stock firmware, then more than likely you have already updated the system. What people are saying to do now to be save with LT and xbox live, is that whenever it asks you 2 do a SYSTEM UPDATE then b4 u do this u gotta flash it back to the stock firmware again, update, and then re-flash with LT. if you're connected to live and start to play a new game and it asks for a GAME UPDATE, this is fine, u wont have to mess about flashing again, it's just when it asks for a SYSTEM UPDATE, which doesnt happen often, not too sure when....

Hope this helps
