LITEON 83850 v1 Did I brick it?

So my DVD stopped working (won't read discs, has trouble ejecting) and I decided to crack it open and try to get it to work. The inside of the 360 was pretty dusty (I had just bought it a few days prior) so I thought that just cleaning the drive was worth a shot, and if that didn't work, I have several better drives just lying around that I've pulled from dead Xenon and Opus boards that come through at work. BUT, failing to think ahead as I usually do, I didn't extract the DVD key from the drive BEFORE I started cleaning it. D'oh. I removed the three flex cables and very gently cleaned off the PCB and laser assembly with canned air followed by a lint-free cloth. After putting the drive back together, now the 360 won't recognize it (flashing center light) and neither will JungleFlasher. I'm at a total loss for what would cause this.

Troubleshooting attempted:
- Probe 3 lights up, so the probe and therefore the drive are receiving power
- Tried multiple SATA cables
- Eject button on 360 has no effect on the drive

If anyone could assist me in pulling the DVD key from this drive, that would be amazing. I just want a TS-H943 in there or something, God I hate LiteOn's. Sadly, I don't have another 83850 to board swap to :/ If it can't be done, I guess I'll just R-JTAG with my next paycheck and fix one of these RRoD's laying around for XBL play.

If higher quality/closeup pictures are needed, I'll be happy to oblige.

For simple cleaning like you did, you do not need to extract the dvd key from the pcb. Only if you intend to really swap the pcb or total drive.

Check your Sata and other connections and try different and/or power cable.

Maybe you had some ESD (electro static discharge) on your board, in that case maybe you pcb could be screwed, because it's a weird story that from a little air blowing and lint free cloth your drive doesn't work at all anymore.

I see on one of the pics your probe is just resting on top. Are you sure it never accidentally touched a live part on your board? Touching certain parts with the probe can kill it.

I never had the probe near it while the 360 had the power cable plugged in, my bad.

Just cleaning it inside would not screw it up, you must have done something else like put the power plug in upside down or something as these drives are not that sensitive
Looking back I plugged that in without paying too much attention the first time, how would I go about diagnosing that?

Swapping the chip to another Lite-On PCB might let you recover the drive key, but the chances of that being possible are slim if the PCB is fried.

An easier option is to glitch the console (assuming it isn't a Xenon) and get the key that way.

If you did then it will be most likely fried, as Blakey says it is going to be easiest to just RGH it to get the key back or get someone to have a look at the drive for you to double check.

Replace r207 with a bit of wire and see if that helps. I'm sure that's the component that Burns

Upon closer inspection, r207 is definitely gone. I just realized I left my soldering station at work though and shop's closed on Sundays, so I'll try it tomorrow and report back. Thank you so much! And just plain wire (leftovers from my last RGH) will work, correct?

Edit: I just searched other r207 issues and I'm pretty sure that's my issue. I do remember smelling something weird when my 360 first powered on, but I thought it was just residue from the new stuff I tried to clean off the old thermal compound from the CPU & GPU (I decided to go ahead and future proof while I had it apart. The console hasn't RRoD'd yet, but the previous owner didn't maintain it very well). My 360 powered on when I plugged in the cable for some reason, and my PC driver setup wasn't ready so I immediately powered down. I'll replace r207 and report back with pictures.

The power button on my RoL PCB is also gone, no idea what could have caused this. Glad I have spares lying around. Are these mobo dependent? This is a Jasper I'm working on but I think the only other PCB's I have lying around are from two Xenon's, a Zephyr, and a Falcon. Probably not the right place to ask but I don't wanna make a new thread until I go through the trial and error and that doesn't work.

Alright, last question. When I tried to power on the 360, I got the blinking light. I've heard very little in regards to ban flags, does this mean my console is flagged now? I haven't connected to XBL since I took out the DVD drive, so it's not too late. I'm thankfully better at working with NAND then I am with DVD drive stuff, so I could get it unflagged when I go to RJTAG/DemoN this thing but I'd like to still be able to use it for Netflix until then. I assume connecting to XBL right now without a DVD drive is a bad idea? If my console gets banned, that's not a huge deal, but I've had my XBL account for nearly 8 years now, wouldn't wanna lose that!

Also, my Xenon RF module didn't work :( I put it in and now the console won't boot at all. Guess I'll dig around and try to find what I did with my Zephyr. My Falcon is RRoD but I don't wanna take any parts from it because it may still have a chance some day.

Last picture, why not

The console will record that u powered on the console without the DVD attached and this will be updated with xbl when u next login regardless of whether it happened offline or not. But this has never been proven to result in a ban. Im always powering on without DVD attached when troubleshooting or flashing. It I wouldn't recommend going online while it's detached, just in case. U can wipe flags from NAND but I don't know the method.

Maybe non HDMI rf boards don't like HDMI consoles.i would use your falcon parts while it's just sitting there gathering dust. Good luck.

As long as the drive u use has been flashed with the same model and firmware signature that your original drive had then the Xbox and live won't know the difference, but I wouldnt recommend playing any games on live with it. Netflix will be fine though. Just read jungleflasher PDF on spoofing other drives. Good luck.

That's not true at all, did MS even issue a ban for ap2.5 failure?
