quote: "Damn you freak, just about everything you touch works flawlessly."

Yep, I said it before somewhere, whatever I say I'm gonna do, I somehow do, to perfection. It's the skill of all skills.

I can draw to the highest standard possible, chip an XBOX perfectly in 5 minutes literally, edited mini mario homebrew xbox game to have catrman as a playable character and mr hankee coming out of the tunnels, customise XBOX's to perfection, you name it........

I'm amazed myself at everything I do. :D

So anyone want one of these cool digit pad security devices or their XBOX? It would be $25 I think. Cos I'm in the UK and it cost a bit to send it to USA.

Only serious buyers please, I made a jewel Kit for XCRAZNMIKE before, and then he ignored my emails and never sent the money, so no jewel kit for him. This jewel kit is half red, half green (led's). No solder to install it, just clear your jewel, cut the circle from the lid of your XBOX, peel off the backing on the double sided tape of the jewel kit and stick it to your XBOX lid. Anyone want it? $25. Good quality. I have photos of it packaged up and ready to send.

This jewel kit saves you about 46 solder points, and a lot of hot glue and precision in placing the led's.

DAMN I wish I was you --- life would be so much easier. Want to finish up my RFI and fly to Canada next week for me?

Good god! I want to get into electronics and do stuff like that. Now I'm sad.:(
You're 14. Nothing stopping you, AND if you play your cards right, you might be able to convince your parents to help you out on this.

1. Don't tell them you want to mod your Xbox.
2. Go to your local library and pick up a "1001 Basic Electronics Projects" type of book. Take it home. Read it.
3. Leave it around where you mum and dad can trip over it, where it needs to be picked up off the kitchen table before dinner, etc.
4. Wait for them to ask - but then tell them that this is really interesting stuff, and you think you can LEARN something from this (reality is, that it IS really interesting, and you CAN learn from it).

Ask them if they can buy you a basic soldering iron, and some parts (look at the plan in the book - pick an easy project ... an LED flasher, "knight rider" led strobe are easy to start with). Move onto cooler things as you gain experience.

Reading a circuit diagram is all about knowing the symbols - as a musician (or at least someone that plays the trumpet ;) ) - you are at an advantage. Reading music requires abstract thought - so does reading scematics.

Its educational AND a hobby --- what parent can complain about that?

What's an RFI?
Request for information - think 100 page response to technical requirements document issued by a client. Next stage is RFP - request for proposal where we cover 60% of the same stuff, but talk licencing and $$$. Stage after that is "show me the money".

Being personable, having presentation skills, and being able to clearly communicate technological solutions to non-technical people is both a blessing and a curse (that keeps me away from my real love - programming) - but it drops cash in my account every couple of weeks.

Looks like I'm off to Canada next week again anyway. Nothing against Canada - but I am getting sick of Toronto eh?

Oh, no no no no.

Tried. They think it's useless.

Blah blah blah.

See the way my dad figures it, if I do good in school, then I will grow up and become rich and then that way, I can take care of him when he is old. ANd to him, if I actually want to learn something, then it's stupid and to stop having my head in the clouds...
And, I don't have a library card. Trust me, I know my parents. They don't even like me reading a book that's not a school book(a.k.a advanced algebra, science, history, etc.) because when growing up, I liked reading all those books about dragons and knights and stuff. So to him, if I'm having fun with it, then it is not educational. :(

And I'm left with nothing.

SO, in conclusion, I won't ever be able to do anything in electronics until I'm in college. But hey, I'm the best writer in class from reading a lot so maybe if I read a lot of tutorials on electronics and stuff, maybe...

TokenUser, You must know a LOT about electronics. Respect.

Note to Phoenic: your parents don't seem to do anything for you, so if and when you're rich, laugh at them and don't give them a dollar. Lol.

No, when it comes to electronics, I am a hack. I can solder, I can follow instructions, but am not an electronics expert.

What I am however is a software engineer that knows client server software development (J2EE and SQL databases), network design and analysis, and enough about the financial services industry (our market - extremely specialised and security conscious) to translate business requirements into technical briefs.

And I own a nice suit - even if I wear it with black hiking boots :D

You're a bit like me, I don't really know much about electronics, I'm too cac at maths to learn the schematics so I'm just a modder, I do the practical stuff with only knowledge of basic electronics. And I wear big heavy brown hiking boots.
