Disabling Xecuter 2.6

I bought an Xecuter 2.6 CE last Christmas. It's been working great. I use EvolutionX with it.

I recently bought x-box live for the first time, and understand that the mod chip needs to be OFF to use x-box live, or I will be banned on the spot. When I turn off the middle switch that says "Chip disable" on it, I get an error message on the screen in green on black background saying "X-box needs to be maintenanced." In about 15 languages.

Is this a problem? Can I just put the game in and go to "Play Disc" and just boot off the dvd-rom? Or will Microsoft still know I am using a mod-chip?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What is the error number? Check my sig for a link to the error codes.

Error 05

It says Error 05, which the link you gave me says, "5 - kernel - HDD not locked (retail bioses require the hd to be locked)"

I'm not quite sure what this means, but I will do a search for it in the forums, because I think I read about it before.

Okay so from what I've read about this on the forums is that I need to lock my hard drive in the flash bios thingy. I'm not sure how to do this.

there's an option in the evox.ini file to lock your drive just editting the ini file so the dash recognizes the option (check xbox-scene tuts)
or you can use FlashX to flash a 512k image of flashbios and select the option
i'm not sure if configmagic will do the trick, if someone else can confirm it does/does not have the option to

If you still have FlashBIOS on your chip (try selecting the alternate boot bank) it may have lock/unlock utilities in there. The EvoX dashboard also has the ability to lock/unlock the HDD but it may be hidden in your menus or not listed in there at all, you may need to edit the EvoX ini file to get it to appear as suggested by MKC.

Alternately, the application ConfigMagic by Team Assembly does have lock/unlock ability, and with a nice recovery feature built in... it sets a default master unlock code of TEAM ASSEMBLY. If you ever need to pull the locked drive from the Xbox and use it somewhere else you can first unlock it via a normal PC, this password and utilities available on Xbox-Scene. Great if your Xbox ever dies and you need to get to your data. BE WARNED! This is a very powerful utility and other options can brick your Xbox if not used properly! Use only if you are comfortable with what you are doing, and take it slow. Once the HDD is locked you may want to remove the utility entirely so you don't later goof something.

It turned out all it needed was a few lines in the evox.ini its called file.

http://www.xbox-scene.com/articles/hdd-ftp.php explained it best.

I went through probably close to a hundred TUT, howto pages, and posts, and all of them expected you to know how to use flashbios (which I don't) and it was frustrating for newer users when people just expect you to know all of this stuff. If I knew all the terms and methods, I wouldn't need help doing a simple "lock" on my HD.

But thanks for your help. My HD is now locked.
