my 360 has already been modded by a friend of mine but i would like to start learning how to do it myself. i have a hitachi drive. before the mod, my rom version was 0047DJ. i dont now what it is now, but i would like to restore the original firmware and redo it myself for practice. i hear only specfiic chipsets work with connecting the drive to the pc. here is my motherboard:

and can anybody direct me to a place where i can download the original firmware? thx

you cannot download the original firmware your friend should have made a backup of it.

Get your drive into ModeB and run the restore.bat <drive letter> and it will restore your original firmware. Hitachi drives do not need the original firmware backed up in order to restore. Samsung drives do.

Be careful though - while Samsungs can (relatively) easily be recovered from bad flashes, little accidents like forgetting to encrypt your firmware will brick a Hitachi....

Please be SURE you have your drive key before you do much practising....
