ANSWERED Do I need 0800 firmware to rip my originals when they're for jtag use only?

Hi folks,

Whilst I have a spare 360 drive here it's not currently 0800 flashed. I've been converting all my backups to GOD containers but have a few originals I've yet to backup.

Can I rip these via a normal PC drive seeing as I'll never need the security sectors etc, or is 0800 necessary to actually physically rip the disks images? I've never thought to try before now as I obviously wanted 1:1 backups.

if its original then you would need an 0800 drive for your pc to be able to read it if its a backup i read the iso to my pc with img burn then extract the contents with either xbox image browser or xdvd mulleter (mulleter is well outdated now but still works, i found some games would not extract with xbox image browser which is why i use it occasionally still) then just drop the files into your game folder. i also remove the system update from the extracted files before adding them to my jtag.

Thanks for the info, hadn't had the chance to stick an original game into my Pioneer drive. Will get to flashing the spare liteon with 0800 then.

no problem. i ended up fitting my 0800 drive into my tower just needs a bit of chopping up done to the plastic feet of the 360 drive. obviosly its fubared for ever going in a 360 after that though. even managed to find an old drive front to make it look like a pc drive but it needs to be powered from a ck3.

I recently bought a Lite-On DVD-DL Burner model number iHas124-19Y
It will rip retail games with Xbox Back Up Creator.

Its the first standard DVD-DL drive i think anyone has found that will copy retail games without 0800 or kreon firmware.

Maan.. I just checked with my Lite-On iHAS524-T98 B and it doesn't rip retail games

defo works with the iHas124-19Y already ripped about 30 retail games with it. no mods to the drive at all, standard

are you sure its badged as a liteon and not a Sony Optiarc (rebadged Liteons with a Y on the serial number are Optiarc drives)

I am ripping originals from the video shop. they defo copy and play. here is a pic of the label.

When i bought it the thing was marked as a Lite-on drive and came with Lite-on Firmware tools on a disk.
