I'm following ccNick's excellent CR guide for noobs and have all the kit needed. My only question is do I still need to install the Jtag QSB to my Falcon motherboard?

All the Nand-X and Jtag guides I've looked at say yes but the pictures on the RGH guide don't have it installed.

You can instal with the included wires only. The CR is shipped with color coded pre cut and pre tinned wires

QSBs make connecting and disconnecting the nandx easier. You can:
1) Use the Coolrunner specific QSBs (different than the ones that come with nand-x)
2) Use pin headers for the nandx connection, wire CR straight to the board
3) wire both straight to the board.

I'll rephrase my question - following the RGH coolrunner guide do I need to connect anything to J2D2 ? Wires or QSB makes no difference.

At work, at play...
You need a way to read your 360s nand. You can use qsbs, headers/wires or direct wire to do that.... check out one of the tutorials and make sure you understand what all you must do before starting. Good nand reads are a must.

like the other guys said

wire qsb or wires to solder points to read your nand. read it 3 times and compare them to make sure they are identical

once you have created your new nand and written it to the 360 you can remove it if you wish but i would leave it soldered as it makes it much easier if you need to mess around with the nand later on. just pop the wires out of the side of he case and you wont have to open the console again, hopefully :D

i havnt gone into any detail here, check the tutorials written. they are a massive help
best of luck

Not only that but its a pain in the ass to remove and you could easily pull up a pad while your at it. I say leave it in for sure.

I've used both and if you are just beginning I would use direct wire method. The qsb's are easy to fook up if your soldering isn't up to par. They've also come out with the pin header connectors which I found to be easier with original jtag (before rgh).
