Do i need to delete the $systemupdate out of xex games?

I have converted some of my games to play off the external hard drive... is it necessary to delete system update files? whats the best way to prevent the system from accidental update?

I do it just out of habit, you don't every need them, delete them!

No you dont have to delete that folder. Install dashlaunch and it will block system updates for you.

If you have the newest version of dashlaunch, the update blocker is on by default and those updates should not prompt you for anything. Also if you have the latest dashboard you should not get prompted for updates. I personally delete them to save hard drive space, it doesn't save much but I get an extra gig from doing it.

You save a GB from each game?

No no no, I wish! The updates are only about 90MB, but if you have 10 games, you now save almost a 1GB. Also to save space I extract the discs, so each game may be as little as 500MB, however most are about 4GB-6GB, but this is getting off topic
