Firstly Hi all, been reading these threads for quite a while and other sites, came to the conclusion that you guys seem to be the most helpful!

Not exactly new to electronics, been in the 'game' for years but not console related so forgive any noobness.
PC system details either 32 vista 64 7 or 32 Xp, and various sata options, I dont have the original Xbox drive but have several of similar age and type (old Xenon so I believe its a toshiba or even Hitachi? I have both if needed).

LPT cable/diodes/resistors to xbox 12 " long soldered to xbox dvd cables with matching sockets soldered to the xbox pcb in the correct points. Updated Jtag wiring used, correct diodes, cathode ends to JP soldered through hole to ensure good connection again used xbox dvd cable and heatshrink with a wire link bridge on correct points (not tried 330k resistor bridge...yet)

AV connection SVGA to Monitor to view Xell, original matching nanddumps backed up several times, nandpro v20b Jrunner ver .3 b alsoo tried Coolshrimp tools and others

Can post pics but it all works quite well and is a fairly tidy install (INMO) I used spare Xbox cables n connectors for internals for that very reason and I can reflash my factory image..proves the LPT side works at least...

The issue/Question
The short story is I have an old dash Xenon from a joblot without the correct DVD drive, its very old 1888 Kernal so pre the 1920 kernal e fuse state which I believe means it has to be updated ( to either a 1920 or 1921 Kernal!?) and blow an e fuse before it can be exploited via jtag/gpu attack...obviously quite nervous about this as would need to find a genuine ten year old update..and its potentially a one shot deal if the update is newer than it claims..

Next IF the above is true AND the dash I have is pre USB update support as its sooo old how to update it at all, will an unmatched drive work, I know it see's the drive as a DVD but wont run official games, but anyone tried to run official updates on an system similar condition?

After trying almost everywhich way I could find to flash images then boot Xell or similar and getting countless single light with on screen message, or full speed fans if writing Xbr reloaded after clearing the nand (just to see if that way would load Xell) or a couple of 3 red rings but I think the pc going to sleep state during one of many flashes triggered these isolated miss flashes....I reckon its time I asked for a little guidance.

I have seen a function on one of many tools that would allow an image to be created with a dvd key of your choice, but dont know if that would work injected into a std image or just a prehacked one or IF I could then program a DVD of similar type/age with jungle flasher flash the std now hacked matching dvd key to the xbox, update it to 1920 or 1921 Kernal THEN hopefully flash hacked image to boot Xell get CPU key and get on with the interesting stuff.

Hopefully someone will call me a foolish man with half a clue, rip me a new one and provide an easier way forward?

I cant seem to get it to boot after reflash, usually e79 error... I read somewhere that its recommended to be at dash 7*** before trying the exploit, then read about the whole history from the KK exploit onwards and came to the above conclusions based on what I've read...may explain the few Xenons that other people have had issue's with (cant be many trying this with such old dash/kernals) I would rather be wrong than right..

2014-06-14 18.44.15.jpgCan do/will do...been searching for the pages I read which made sense but they were cached since the 9th of this month on my 'rig' so the sites gone.. its rebooted since n cached site not listed in history.....grrr level of detail and reference was amazing, and I suspect could only have come from an insider...I should have saved it to a txt file...was more like an official tech release in total historic overview..starting from day one hardware firmware and software revision history, how and when the chipsets talk and why various other hacks worked or wont work due to the way boot sequence checks the update (cpu fuse sets) pre Kernal and then finally runs a virtual machine just to be sure....the e79 state CAN it seems be triggered if not enough fuses are blown because the hacked image expects them to be as its just checking for a same value state and throws a no go if its not the expected value.. all made perfect sense and historically was just after the KK hack and the next couple of updates had critical changes which blew a fuse set...and opened up the exploit on the CPU/via GPU which was then shut by either a patched update or by subsequent updates which blew the next fuse sets..all seems very reasonable..
I was going to double check my version which isnt as old as I feared (6717) against the document I cant find Doh! As I said been following the issue's far more experienced people have had on certain Xenons and beating my head on this for a while now...IF what I am saying has truth to it then whatever tools I am using wont effect the result...and the methods I have tried have been tried n tested ( I even cut n paste the cmds direct from source in case I couldnt type!) only step xbox wise is resistor not bridge..checked the resistance its 1.6 ohms I believe at the diode solderpoints...

Try giving this sticky a read (authored by Martin C) http://team-xecuter.com/forums/showthread.php?t=143908

I have not had any experience with xboxs with a kernel that old (1888) but what u say about exploitability could be plausible. In which case u would need to update via xbox live. It is most likely a toshiba (firmware MS25) or hitachi (firmware 32 - 59). U would need to get a toshiba or hitachi drive and flash the old stock firmware then update, dvd key doesn't matter at this stage M$ only checks for the OSIG so as long as that matches. Microsoft tend to update in jumps when updating kernels from the stoneage so update once then stop and check where the kernel is. As u said u probably only need one jump to make the kernel exploitable. Good luck.

Thanks for you help so far guys, I dig the update in stages thing but would rather play safe n avoid online to outside world.....I have a couple of update zips downloaded which should jump me to the next step, if they are what they say on the tin...may try n open/read one n check the headers or plain txt info in the file....then compare the files from different sources to check thier size etc matches...anyone spoofed an update over ip...launched from a local address lol
Checked out the sticky, read quite a bit from the same guy, its where the resistor instead of bridge suggestion came from (as yet untried on this install)

On my phone but looks like you have one diode coming from .8 and no .4 to .7 bridge?

LOL used my phone so photos crap! Wiring is second install n is 'belt n braces' did a 'few' years in electronic repairs, consumer at quiet times but mostly specialist industrial IT, ICT also a manufacturer approved engineer, supervising engineer and head of quality for quite a while, (had eighty engineers/techs and ten QA staff at one point) Called Merlin by my old boss and I still make daft mistakes, so redid the wiring early in the process. Unfortunatly I dont have access to the complete two factory setup I used too and was too busy then to do much IT or electronics in my 'spare' time...shame could have had some fun and possibly made a fortune..

Now updated to 7353 (usb did work but also an official hdd with update would have worked if was really early/pre usb support, in fact this dash didnt see the usb as a usable device, but did pickup the update after a few mins ) so should be exploitable by any measure..tried three different flash's one build from jrunner, one using coolshrimp (automated) and also Xbr (just to see if it would boot to Xell that way)

Still not getting past the e79, noticed fans are ramping up...seems to be either doing too much work or getting warmed up by a partial short/dryish joint or maybe its got a GPU fault after all (runs on dash but cant check gameplay as a no dvd..or early game without update)

Gonna strip inspect the hardware, install again already checked the diode s with my meter a few times maybe swap resistor for the bridge.. and make sure the gpu/cpu heatsinks are not shorting the chips...look for missing caps/broken tracks etc.. I do have a couple of reballed chips (sealed) but dont have the equipment if worst come to worst...and sods law probably HDMI ones anyway lol...

Just an update to say thanks...currently on hold... probably needs GPU at least, started replacing caps had an idea that weak caps could be an issue, couple looked slightly domed on top.. maybe causing noise or just not quite doing their thing.. no ECR to test with..no scope to investigate with either..no rework station...so little hope at the moment. And yes spare GPU I have is for HDMI...if nothing else I've learned a lot :)

The GPU on my first xenon jtag died. They're just unreliable. Get yourself a jasper and rjtag/ cr4 it. It's great fun. Good luck with your mods.
